Advanced sales for the new Akshay Kumar-Kareena Kapoor all-out romantic comedy masala are 100% in many cinemas ensuring that the long hot summer of success that was predicted by the distributors and which began last week with New York is set to continue. Set for worldwide release on July 3rd, the movie also features Bond girl Denise Richards, Superman Brandon Routh and ‘Rocky’ Sylvester Stallone.
Sajid Nadiadwala says in retrospect that he never expected the film to be so big but it just grew in the telling. “I never thought Kambakkth Ishq would turn out to be a massive film,” he says, “Of course, with Akshay and Kareena in the cast, it was meant to be a big-budget film, but the film grew in size and stature the moment we finished scripting and began casting.”
In the movie, Kareena Kapoor plays a supermodel – it’s rumoured that she experimented with sixty pairs of shoes to get the right look. Was she conscious of the need to make a style statement in the film?
“Everything in Kambakkth Ishq is a style statement!” she exclaims, “I consciously chose non-filmi clothes. Aki Narula has sourced my clothes from Milan. It took him 15 days to find the right kind of clothes for me. I wanted the costumes to sync well with my character. After Jab We Met where my clothes became a national rage and Kambakkth Ishq is going to set new trends!”
