‘Aligarh’ to release on 26th February 2016

15aug_Aligarh-Still01An old Professor on the verge of his retirement is expelled from his University after a camera captures him engaged in a homosexual act. Though consensual, it triggers a controversy regarding morality and tradition. A young journalist sets on to investigate the truth and unravel the reality of this “sting operation”.

Set in a small town in Uttar Pradesh from which the film takes its name, ‘Aligarh’ is the story of a professor, Dr. S R Siras (Manoj Bajpayee) fired from his position for his sexuality and a young journalist, Deepu Sebastian (Rajkummar Rao) who tells his story to the world. Based on true events, the film depicts the unlikely friendship between the two, a relationship that will change both of them forever.

The film received a standing ovation at its World premiere at the prestigious 20th Busan International Film Festival in October 2015 and shortly thereafter opened to packed houses at the 59th BFI London Film Festival. Later in the month, it was selected as the opening film at the17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival on October 30th 2015; marking the second time that a Hindi film opened the festival since 1997, the inaugural year of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

The much anticipated film will release on 26th February 2016.

Eros International presents Aligarh, directed by Hansal Mehta and written by Apurva Asrani, produced by Eros International and Karma Pictures.
