The rushes of Saawariya, which stars debutants Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are out for everyone to see. One can’t miss the magnificent sets, the whole SLB feel, and also…the well toned bodies of its main leads!

Although Ranbir has always been lean and fit (according to Kapoor standards!), the same can’t be said about Sonam. The actress actually lost 30 kilos for her role in Saawariya. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director of the film says, “It is absolutely true that she weighed 85 kilos, and has lost about 30 kilos for her role in the film.” Way to go Sonam!

According to reports, Sanjay gave Sonam the script of Saawariya when she was assisting the director on Black. This took Sonam completely by surprise as she didn’t think she would fit the role of the heroine as she was overweight, but once she was finalized for the project; there was no looking back for the young actress! She worked hard on her body and lost weight; as is visible in the promos of the film!

We are certainly looking forward to watching both the upcoming stars in Saawariya when it hits theatres on November 9th. The guys may be waiting to drool over Sonam and her well toned body but personally, and I speak on behalf of all the girls, I’m dying to see Ranbir Kapoor as the lad looks super fit in the white dhoti!

Starring: Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Vidya Balan, Boman Irani, Baby Juhaina
Director: Sajid Khan

When we think of comedian Sajid Khan, we think of humor, jokes, laughter, funny one-liners and light moments. As a result, it comes as no surprise that his directorial venture Heyy Babyy falls under the comic genre. The man, undoubtedly, understands humor very well and has a fantastic sense for comedy. With sister Farah Khan’s second film, Om Shanti Om, just months away from release; it’s interesting to see what her brother has in store for us.

Comedy flicks can be of two types — those that are totally brainless and make no sense whatsoever, or those which are sensible, as well as, funny at the same time. Heyy Babyy definitely belongs to the latter category as it entertains you with its hilarious sequences and also, makes you shed a tear or two at its emotionally realistic scenes. It has the perfect blend of comedy and emotion — the most integral components for a hit movie!

Heyy Babyy revolves around three good-looking bachelors from Sydney, Arush (Akshay Kumar), Ali aka Al (Fardeen Khan), and Tanmay (Riteish Deshmukh) who are completely bindaas and just want to have fun in life. No prizes for guessing that their definition of ‘fun’ is getting plenty of action (and that doesn’t just mean flirting) with all the pretty ladies around. Arush runs a popular nightclub in the city, whereas Tanmay has the highly entertaining job of playing Eddy Teddy at parties (His logic is that girls like to sleep with teddy bears — need I say more?). Al, on the other hand, does nothing but gamble and lives a carefree life.

However, as the saying goes that ‘all good things come to an end’ and suddenly, the bachelors’ oh-so-cool lifestyle, including their philandering ways get thrown into confusion and disorder with the arrival of little Angel, a cute 8-month old baby at their doorstep. Sajid Khan wastes no time in introducing the baby and five minutes into the film, you will find yourself laughing uncontrollably as the three handsome dudes struggle to take care of Angel — changing her nappies, feeding her, dealing with her tantrums and so on. If the first few scenes make you laugh, then the following scenes do a complete about-turn and make you cry when Arush, Tanmay and Al decide to abandon the baby at someone’s doorstep and she ends up critically ill due to the pouring rain. It is this one sequence which brings a complete change in the attitudes of the three guys and they transform from being careless and carefree bachelors to doting, caring and responsible fathers. Their fatherly behavior is almost endearing and makes you smile to no end. In fact, a dialogue that Riteish mouths completely sums up this situation — “Pehle, hum bad the, ab hum Dad hai!” which translates into ‘First we were bad, now we are Dad!” — couldn’t have been said better!

The first-half of the film is fast-paced, to the point, and builds up to a surprising interval (without giving anything away). The interaction between Angel and Arush/Al/Tanmay is very, very cute. The scenes where the three of them are on the lookout for the mother of the baby are extremely funny — with the number of times they get slapped and beaten up! The second-half, though not as good as the first, is still quite enjoyable. It includes a few flashbacks, sequences of Al trying to woo Isha (Vidya Balan), as well as his and Tanmay’s efforts at getting back the baby. The scenes where Fardeen acts as ‘Professor Parimal Tripathi’ are absolutely hilarious, especially the one in the car. However, certain scenes in the second-half do tend to drag a bit and get a little too dramatic at some points. Also, atleast one song could have been edited out post the interval. That being said, these flaws are way too tiny and are easily overcome by the brilliance of the remaining portions.

Cinematography of the film is amazing. The locales of Sydney, Brisbane, and Gold Coast are beautifully captured. Screenplay and dialogues are simply great — nothing over the top. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is definitely the plus point of the movie and the picturization of the songs are equally splendid. The foot-tapping title track (which has a number of actresses doing their thing) and ‘Mast Kalandar’, featuring Shahrukh Khan (who adds to the star value of the film), are sure to be the most popular numbers of Heyy Babyy.

Akshay Kumar is the life of the film. We all know that he’s a pure genius at comedy and, no doubt, his comic timing is spot-on this time around too! His expressions and dialogues are just hilarious, and not only does he make you laugh, but he also manages to get you very emotional at the same time – which is not at all an easy thing to do, and only an actor par excellence can do that.

Fardeen and Riteish provide the support for Akshay in the film. Fardeen Khan is fabulous. It’s been a while since his last two comic capers, No Entry and Pyare Mohan, and he surely impresses us yet again! Riteish Deshmukh excels as always. He is too cute and funny. His performance is certainly noteworthy!

The chemistry between the three lead actors is impeccable — it definitely cannot be missed! They seem at complete ease with each other.

Vidya Balan not only looks gorgeous, but acts great as well. It’s a refreshing change to see her play a slightly different, more aggressive character. Not only that, it’s nice to see her dress differently too — a pleasant departure from her typical Indian look (in most of her previous films) to a comfortable, western avatar.

Boman Irani doesn’t get much scope, but is wonderful in the few scenes that he has, what more can we expect from an actor of his caliber! Angel, the baby (Baby Juhaina) is too adorable for words; her expressions and cheeky smiles are extremely cute.

Anupam Kher is sufficient in the little role that he has.

On the whole, Heyy Babyy is a very well made film, a great entertainer with the correct mix of comedy and drama. Get ready to laugh endlessly, shed a tear here and there…add the casts’ awesome performances to that, and you’ve got the whole package! Take a bow Sajid Khan — your first babyy is definitely worth our ticket!

Hrithik ‘Perfectionist’ Roshan is at it again. The green-eyed hunk who is known for giving his attention to the minutest of details has been working extremely hard to get his Urdu lines right. The star, who plays Akbar in Jodha-Akbar, is so keen to perfect his Urdu that he also takes his teacher, Kamaal Ahmed along to the dubbing studio incase he needs extra help in perfecting his pronunciations!

A source says that Roshan Jr. makes it a point to take lessons whenever and wherever he has some free time on his hands. When asked about it, Kamaal Ahmed says, “Yes I am teaching Urdu to Hrithik. Hrithik is my favourite student as he is very hard-working and a perfectionist. He doesn’t give up till he gets the pronunciations perfect.”

Not only that, it looks like Duggu also gets a bit of homework from his trainer! “Yes I used to give him a format that he had to keep practicing. And he used to practice it diligently every time. I would keep making him repeat some difficult words which he had difficulty pronouncing”, adds Ahmed.

The proud teacher also says that all the credit goes to Hrithik who has learnt the language well. “Personally speaking, Hrithik is extremely cultured and knows how to respect people.” We definitely look forward to watching Hrithik speaking Urdu flawlessly in Jodha-Akbar and we’re sure that our superhero’s hard work will pay off!

Move over Big B, Saif Ali Khan seems to be the latest angry young man in town if one goes by recent reports. Apparently, the good-looking Khan lost his cool (and rightly so) during the filming of Tashan in Ladakh.

Saif and Kareena Kapoor, who co-stars in the film with him, were enjoying a quiet lunch when fans threatened to barge into the restaurant and meet the actor and actress. When the local boys were stopped from entering the restaurant by the stars’ bodyguards, they started teasing Saif and Kareena. One thing led to another, and one of the ‘fans’ was reportedly beaten up by a bodyguard which further aggravated the situation, and the local boys started pelting stones.

Our very own Langda Tyagi obviously thought he should get out and calm down the crowd but was in for a rude shock when the mob was in no mood to listen to the actor. This was the final straw for Saif and he lost his cool and in turn got into fight with the uncouth locals, who abused him no end. A unit member says, “Saif was infuriated when they started hurling abuses at them (i.e. Kareena and him).”

Luckily, both the stars escaped unhurt but their respective bodyguard’s sustained injuries, with Kareena’s bodyguard being given four stitches. This unfortunate row with the public was definitely a first for Saif Ali Khan, who is usually said to be quite cool and laid-back.

First for Saif but definitely not a first for Bollywood! Several of our stars have been stuck in such situations where mobs have gotten out of control and aggressive. We guess they just need tighter security next time around!

Zayed Khan is going to be a proud daddy soon! The ‘Cash’ star and his wife Malaika are expecting their first child sometime early next year. There are already six grandchildren in the Khan family, the youngest being Hrehaan Roshan (Hrithik and Suzanne Roshan’s son).

Naturally, both Zayed and Malaika are delighted. Says Zayed, “Having a child is a blessing from God and I am totally ecstatic! Inside my heart of hearts, I’m laughing and so, so happy, even though I’m exhibiting a controlled exterior. I am looking forward to the next generation of Khan genes to create a lot of noise in the house which hasn’t happened since I grew up.” He also mentioned that Malaika and he have already got some names in their head irrespective of whether the baby is a boy or a girl.

When asked whether he’s ready for fatherhood, Zayed has an interesting take on it. He states, “I don’t really know how to answer that. I think the minute you touch your child, some chemical reaction will take over and parental behaviour will kick in.” Well, we guess you’ll find out soon enough ZK!

Malaika Khan is equally overjoyed and admits that she can’t wait to become a mother. The mum-to-be says, “I pray for our child’s health and good wishes from all our loved ones.” Sanjay and Zarine Khan are absolutely thrilled with this latest development too! They are going to be dada-dadi for the very first time and Zayed and Malaika’s child will be their seventh grandchild. To six of their grandchildren, Sanjay and Zarine Khan are already nana-nani.

We wish Zayed and Malaika Khan all the very best and hope to see their little bundle of joy next year!

A different theme as its core, the film revolves around sports, namely (women’s) hockey. The soundtracks of Yashraj’s recent projects Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom have been huge successes respectively, and in turn, one has high expectations from the musical score of Chak De India too. So does it live up to YRF standards? Let’s find out.

With lyrics penned by Jaideep Sahni and music given by Salim-Sulaiman (of Kaal fame), the soundtrack of Chak De India doesn’t have much to offer, barring just two or three songs.

The album opens with the title track Chak De India which is brilliantly sung by Sukhwinder Singh who is in top form. The song boasts of ‘dhol’ beats and it is safe to say that it instills a certain patriotic feeling within the listener. Salim Merchant and Marianne Dcruz provide the backing vocals. Yashraj has released the video of this catchy track where Shahrukh Khan can be seen doing his thing at a sports stadium. The song can also be heard in most of the short promos of the film which are on air.

After a long hiatus, we get to hear the sweet sounding Hema Sardesai on the next track. Undoubtedly the worst song of the album, Badal Pe Paon Hain is as corny as it can get. The number sounds like something out of an 80’s children’s movie and will probably appeal only to 12 year old girls. In the age of progressive music and after hearing so many different tunes churned out by Bollywood music directors lately, it is quite a nightmarish experience to hear such a cheesy song.

Ek Hockey Doongi Rakh Ke is the third and best track on the album. It has the hockey team’s coach Kabir Khan (Shahrukh Khan) introduce his girls. As Shahrukh narrates and gives us a mini-insight into the player’s profiles, the girls sing the peppy and upbeat chorus which goes something like ‘Chal zara zara sa zara zara sa zara zara sa hatke, chal dara dara sa dara dara sa dara dara sa bachke, chak de chak de ek hockey doongi rakh ke’. You can’t help but sing along this high-spirited chorus. The last 30 seconds or so of the song has a role reversal of sorts with the hockey team introducing their coach Kabir Khan, and that’s when we finally get to hear KK’s soulful voice singing the only line he has and that is ‘Chak De…Chak De…Chak De India…’. One wishes to hear more of KK on this number but nonetheless, it’s the best one on the album! ‘Ek Hockey Doongi Rakh Ke’ is also the promotional video of this sports-oriented film which is on air these days and is becoming increasingly popular amongst the youngsters! The Hockey Remix by the Medival Punditz (Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj) appears later on the album and is only a faster version of the original with added electronic dance beats. It’s not as impressive as it was probably made out to be. I’d stick with the original!

Having come a long way from her ‘Viva’ days, Anushka Manchanda has tasted success in Bollywood with the title track of Golmaal and the recently released ‘Naughty Naughty’ from Cash. She now renders a song called Bad Bad Girls from the soundtrack of Chak De India. At first, the track doesn’t seem to sound so great but if given a few more listens, the song tends to grow on you. Anushka’s vocals are once again fantastic, she never fails to impress! The only downside of the song would be its lyrics which are hardly comprehendible. Otherwise, the fast-paced rhythm of ‘Bad Bad Girls’ is a sure-shot winner.

Maula Mere Le Le Meri Jaan is probably the most unexpected song of the album. If the title track signifies power, glory and patriotism, then ‘Maula Mere’ takes a 180-degree turn and represents sadness, loss and depression. Although this slow-paced song is beautifully rendered by Krishna and Salim Merchant, it will only appeal to a small section of people, who are into these kinds of tunes.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the soundtrack draws to a close with not a song, but a 2 minute soliloquy by Shahrukh Khan titled Sattar Minute. In this monologue, we hear the doting coach motivating his 14 girls to give it their best shot at the game without caring about the outcome. We repeatedly hear the words ‘Sattar Minute’ and Shahrukh’s distinctive voice and excellent dialogue delivery definitely leaves an impact on us. The soft background music is good too.

Overall, the musical score of Chak De India is extremely average and certainly not up to Yashraj standards. One expects much more from them considering they’re one of India’s biggest and best production houses. The soundtrack may or may not pick up after the release of the film but nevertheless, it does house a couple of good songs with great beats and is worth listening to atleast once, if not again and again.

Now how many actors out there can boast of owning the Taj Mahal? Well, not literally but please read on.
On August 15th, Vivek Oberoi is going to be the proud owner of a new, stylish vanity van which costs a good 1.5 crore. The van has been exclusively designed for the actor by none other than Bonito Chhabria who specializes in designing classy and exquisite vehicles.

When asked about his luxurious van, Vivek laughs and says “Don’t call it a van. It’s my Taj Mahal!” And the boy sure has reason enough to call it that. Vivek helped Bonito sketch the interiors (which are made of aircraft quality composite) of his vanity van, which includes a complete audio-visual package with a 50-inch LCD screen and an on-board media centre. The van is separated into two parts, with the front portion consisting of the office and make-up chamber, an automated sofa-cum-bed and also, fold-out bench seatings which are set aside for meetings and script reading sessions.

The rest of the bus which is separated from the front portion by a pull down screen comprises of a queen-size bed with twin roof hatches that open out to the sky, a toilet chamber, a state-of-the-art gym, a bar and a pantry which is accompanied by LED and electro-luminescent lighting, as well as two internal generator sets flown down from Japan. Phew!

If that wasn’t enough, Vivek’s ‘Taj Mahal’ also has a… hold your breath….a jacuzzi! It looks like Oberoi Jr. is all set to relax to the max during his film shootings!

The costliest in Bollywood, this vanity van sure sounds like one heck of a dream vehicle! Will you please give us a ride Vivek?

Anyone who upsets Salman Khan is bound to be in his bad books for life. He has also often said that he will forgive his enemies but never forget their names. However, this certainly doesn’t seem to be the case if one goes by his recent interview with a top publication.

The brat of Bollywood was asked a number of questions on his fellow actors, and although he was kind enough to say that he doesn’t have any problems with Abhishek Bachchan (we wonder why?), two other actors were not so lucky. No prizes for guessing that the other two in question are none other than John Abraham and Vivek Oberoi.

The Salman-John saga has been going on for a while now ever since the ‘Rockstars’ concert. Apparently, Sallu ‘bhai’ was upset with the dimpled hunk for displaying starry airs and throwing too many tantrums. Other sources say that Khan was miffed with Abraham for stealing the limelight from him as well as some payment issues (best known to them) during their whirlwind tour. Then there was news about them patching up but before you knew it, once they returned to India, Salman refused to shoot with John for Baabul. He was also seen giving the latter the cold shoulder at the music launch of the film and the cold vibes were further evident at the premiere of Baabul.

When asked about it on Koffee with Karan most recently, John stated that there is a problem but also admits that he doesn’t know what exactly it is, choosing to be politically correct. Although with Salman Khan it is a different story. A couple of months ago on a television channel, he said that John isn’t that important. If that wasn’t enough, he has now gone a step further and claimed that he has no equation whatsoever with John, also saying, “I don’t know that man.” Wow, talk about sour grapes.

Coming to Vivek Oberoi. Everyone is aware of the now infamous press conference that Oberoi Jr. called more than 4 years back to talk about Salman’s alleged misbehaviour towards him and many other industry peeps (Magazines and Newspapers all over the world were exhausted with the 41 phone calls ‘epic’ if I may call it). No doubt, it was a disastrous step taken by the then ‘blue eyed boy’ of Bollywood, with everyone turning their backs against him and supporting Salman in awake of the event. A lot of time has passed since then and Vivek has stated in many interviews that it was indeed something that he deeply regrets, calling it a “fabulous mistake”. He also says that he wishes to clear his karma and do the needful of going up to the people concerned and apologize to them for his carelessness.

Last year when Salman Khan’s first mother Salma Khan was in hospital, everyone was surprised to see that Vivek and his family were one of the first few people to visit her there. This was perhaps a conscious decision on Vivek’s part to extend an olive branch to Salman. However, it was to no avail as the superstar Khan was in no mood to reconcile, completely ignoring all questions that pointed to Vivek in his later interviews. Even today, it doesn’t look like Salman will forgive Oberoi in the near future. When asked about whether he will do a film with Vivek, the bad boy promptly replied, ‘Who’s that? Oh little Vivek, that idiot! Of course not.’ Ouch. Now was that cheeky humor, sarcasm or rudeness? Or was Salman just being so typically himself?

Either ways, I’m not saying this because I’m a Vivek fan but honestly, it’s been more than 4 years since that fateful night and a lot of water has flown under the bridge from then till now. There’s something called ‘Let bygones be bygones’…I suggest you grow up and move on Mr.Khan.

The couple has been living-in for over eight years, but according to sources, the last few months have been nothing but tension-filled for the two, with both of them arguing and fighting quite frequently.

The relationship seems to have strained further with Kelly spending more time with his friends minus Lara and when asked about her, the only thing he lets slip in is that, “She is in the middle of some work.” Reportedly, Kelly is upset with Lara due to her close proximity with her male co-stars, first Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, and now the latest hunk she has been linked to is none other than Bollywood’s bad boy, Salman Khan. Wait, what about Katrina?

Are these just rumors or is the relationship over for good? I guess only time will tell but nevertheless we wish Lara and Kelly all the best and hope they sort out their differences soon.
