Bollywood actress and fashionista Sonam Kapoor dazzled on the red carpet and impressed with her variety of fashion choices.

Known for her love of vintage clothing Sonam Kapoor gave an ethnic look a vintage twist at The Great Gatsby screening. The actress opted for a delicate lace saree by designer Anamika Khanna and worked it with a matching heavily embroided cape-like jacket.

Another look Sonam worked at the opening gala dinner was a pink Ellie Saab haute couture dress. She complemented this look by opting for simple straight hair and accessories.

Sonam told NDTV, “I always walk two red carpets for Cannes and make it a point to wear an Indian outfit on at least one occasion. I had previously worn Masaba Gupta and Anamika. I will wear an Indian outfit for sure for one or both the red carpet events.”

She added, “This is my third year at the Cannes. I am excited to be walking the red carpet in the opening ceremony.”

Alongside Sonam, Aishwarya Rai and Freida Pinto will also be seen walking the red carpet but Sonam is not threatened. “All three of us represent India and we will not compete on who looks better among us. We have Indian skin and use Indian make up, so if we compare it with white skin, neither sides will win.”

Since Sonam is set on what she is wearing, she offered a piece of advice for fellow actress Vidya Balan, “Vidya will look beautiful in chiffons and mulls, and she should wear pearls.”

Vidya on the other hand appears to be focusing on the fact she will be on the jury panel and told PTI at the official launch of Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, “I am not thinking so much of my wardrobe. I see myself in a sari even when I am sleeping. So you will see me in a sari in Cannes.”

Actress Ameesha Patel who will also wear Indian attire designed by none other than Manish Malhotra said in a statement, “Nothing looks better on an Indian woman than a sari or lehengha.”

Sonam appears to agree as she said, “I don’t think Indian clothes or make up is subtle. I think Indian women like the whole idea of being made up. Indian girls love the drama.”

With 25 years experience working in the industry, Ana Singh began her career in 1989 working on the Salman Khan starrer Maine Pyar Kiya. Since then the costumier has gone on to work on 998 films including Khalnayak (1993); 1942: A Love Story (1994); Hum Apke Hai Kaun (1994); Bombay (1995); Border (1997); Refugee (2000); Khakee (2004); Omkara (2006) and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010).

Singh has also gained a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for her contribution to Indian cinema.

Notable achievement for Singh include winning two National Awards for her work on Taj Mahal and Umrao Jaan as well as receiving the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award for her contribution to fashion design and research on the movie Mission Kashmir. Singh has also received the Prime Minister’s Women Achievers Award, and has worked with leading Indian personalities, as well as international stars such as Michael Jackson and Will Smith.

The costumier has also designed for the International Film Federation Awards (IFFA) from 2003–07 in Amsterdam, Leeds, Dubai and Bangkok.

Further to her work in movies Singh was the official designer for the Miss India competition from 1994–99, and has created numerous wardrobes for Indian Miss World and Miss Universe winners. Singh was also the official designer for the 2010 Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies, creating over 20,000 outfits depicting the rich and varied cultures, music and dance forms of the different states within India.

The event raised a staggering £42,000 for the charity that was attended a 350 strong audience of women. Guests were seen enjoying the event which was hosted by TV presenter Tasmin Lucia Khan who captivated the audience with her charisma and even encouraged lively exchanges between the celebrity ambassadors Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jacquline Fernandez and Poonam Dhillion when asked the question ‘What is your top beauty secret’.

The entertainment continued through the afternoon as guests were seen enjoying a high-octane jewellery exhibit from Delhi-based designer Neety Singh and a performance by Sky’s Got To Dance winners ‘Pulse Collective’.

Jain selected Pratham UK as the charity of choice for her UK launch as she has always truly believed in thoroughly giving back to the community that has supported her thus far. Over the years, she has had several fashion shows, the proceedings of which go to NGOs she works closely with. She said “I am really pleased to have supported Pratham for my London collection launch.
The charity works tirelessly to improve learning levels amongst underprivileged children and as celebrities we have the responsibility of supporting causes that truly make a difference. The crowd was fabulous; probably the best-dressed on a Wednesday afternoon in London and I thoroughly enjoyed being here”.

Jacqueline Fernandez said: “No child should be deprived to the basic right of education as I honestly believe it is a pre-requisite to get anywhere in life. I am so happy to be a part of a charity that is so hands-on is making this happen for the large proportion of the under-privileged in our country”.

Sanjeev Bhaskar added: “From the most basic level it is education that matters – and any project that focuses on education, particularly children, is very close to my heart. I think Pratham’s approach to it, which is to get in and educate, is the right approach to get more children educated”.

Shalija Sharma, chair of Friends of Pratham said of the event: “I have been overwhelmed by the support that we have received for event. It is an inspiring cause to be a part of as I truly believe that knowledge is an asset that no one should be deprived of and Pratham is doing a great job to provide this asset to many young children”.

Sonam Kapoor looks like a modern day fashionable princess in this Atsu gown. Although the print is quite bold and loud Sonam carries it off really well. Sonam’s tiara compliments the look and her hairstyle very well.

Kunal Kapoor opts for two contrasting looks and it does not work very well. Kunal should have paired the top with smart black trousers to finish of the look rather than pairing it with casual jeans.

Richa Chadda opts to bring some sparkle to the red carpet. Overall this is a very simple and toned down look that works ok, nothing special but it isn’t the worst outfit about.

Farhan Akhtar opts for a simple black suit and looks good. Again nothing spectacular but it works!

Normally Shabana Azmi ji gets it right on the fashion front but this time I cannot say that. This salwaar kameez is not very flattering and does nothing for the actress. Not a fan of the shoes either.

Vidya Balan opts for a sari, as always. This time this look does not work a there are two many different things going on with this sari, from the different toned blouse to the double printed sari. This is a case of too many prints spoiling the look.

Manish Malhotra opts for a very casual look. I would have expected better from the designer so this is a bit of a disappointing look.

Sakshi Tanwar looks nice and although the sari is quite simple it works well on her.

Neha Dhupia opts for an Anaikka top and a Ranna Gill maxi skirt. This look works well and the vibrant blue colour brings some fun to the look. Neha’s hairstyle and simple makeup compliments this look nicely.

Simone Singh works this simple yet effective sari well. Long sleeved blouses are totally on trend at the moment and Simone shows us how to work them!

Kabir Khan opts for a very casual and boring look. Not a fan of the dated jeans. Mini Mathur works her dress well but the poor choice of accessories, namely those shoes and that random red purse, ruin the look.

Normally you can’t go wrong with an all black look but that was not the case for Neeta Lulla. The all black sari with the long sleeved blouse is too much and makes the designer look like a vamp and that is not a good look!

Aditi Rao Hydari is trying to hard with this look. It is far too messy and looks clown like rather than stylish.
