One of the most respected and sought after nutritionists and fitness experts in India today is Rujuta Diwekar. She works with some very high profile clients including Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor to name a few. Rujuta not only works with the stars, she also works with people from all walks of life to get them fit and healthy. Author of the best selling books Women and the Weight Loss Tamasha and Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight, her main message is to use common sense and un‑complicate the act of eating by eating sensibly, eating locally, and listening to your mother. Read on to see what she means by that and more in our fascinating, educational and fun interview about her fitness, eating, and health funda.

How would you describe your job and your career?

It’s fascinating. I am very happy doing what I do. It has given me the opportunity to explore so many different aspects of my own personality. It gives me this unique chance of working with people, getting to know them inside out, because food really is the most integral aspect of our being. When you talk to people about what they are eating, you also get an insight into what’s really going on in their mind. You get to witness the journey of how they start responding to things differently and how that affects the way they are eating. So once they go on to making more sensible choices with their food a lot of things within them really change. It’s just so much more than weight loss. I think it’s been a fascinating journey. I love what I do.

There are so many theories out there about good nutrition what would you say…

I really think it’s like having a theory on who’s the best man to get married to or who the ideal woman is. You know, it really depends on what phase of life you are in, what it is that you are looking for at this point of time, where you are geographically and what makes most sense to you logistically. So I think your food has to be an expression of your own self. It’s very, very important to not go out there thinking that I am going to comply to some set diet rule or I am going to do that diet fad today and maybe another diet fad tomorrow. It has to be something that is permanent, which helps you grow, which is an expression of who you are and which allows you to be more fearless and more free with your own food. Because all throughout lives we work at getting more fearless, more free, more like ourselves and so I guess even our food has to be like that. But I think if there is one rule I think it should be eat more local food and listen to what your mummy tells you. (Laughs)

There’s so much about size out in the world today, about actresses being too big or too skinny. What are your thoughts about perception of size in films, in TV, in magazines?

Right. I think TV and magazines have a big business in declaring some size as ‘the’ size to be in for the season or the size to be in 2013. It’s absolutely right if you are some kind of a media house, a media giant and you say this is the size, or if you are a fashion label – you can say gold is the new black or whatever it is, to come up with all those things. But for you, as a person, you have to know that you are a living being and a real person. To know that your beauty cannot be limited by size, by shape, or by color. So the fitter you are and the healthier you feel from within, the more attractive and the better you start looking. It’s really about celebrating your own unique size versus really being like everyone else because then you are just a poor copy of what they are talking about this season versus really being your own self.

So when a person comes in for a consultation, how do you develop a plan with them?

I’ve been fortunate enough to have clients that come and sit and we sort of chat about their lives. We barely discuss food, about 3 to 4 minutes. When you are really talking about your life and what’s happening that’s when you really get an insight into what kind of food should be planned and then that really takes no time at all. But before we get there all my clients write down a 3-day dietary call. They each start writing down what time did they wake up, what do they eat, how much they eat, what did they feel like later, what were they doing at that point of time: whether they were driving, or shopping or working. Once they’ve put in about 3 to 4 days of their lives that itself gives them a good insight into where is it that they are going wrong, what is it that they can do better. Because most of us are very intuitive and intelligent about food. It’s just sometimes we are not really watching or listening to our own intelligence or wisdom about what we should be eating. At other times we feel that it’s just not important to be listening to our stomachs, we’d rather finish this email right now, or you know maybe I’ll just drive here and I’ll eat dinner later, you know, those kinds of things. It is when people put it in black and white they realize that there is a solid reason why they are getting fat and it doesn’t just seem to be so much of rocket science to crack it. They have the picture right there.

What would you say should be a person’s fitness and nutritional goals?

We all should work towards getting healthier and getting fitter. That surely should be on top of our agenda because the fitter we stay, the better we feel, the more we can achieve in our bodies. Even if you were to look at just one day, if you get tired by 5 o’clock in the evening there are huge limitations to how many things you can do. Maybe you can’t go out for a run or go out with friends for a movie or you may just not have the energy to cook. But if you are energetic through out the day then you can do so much more in just one day that’s going to be so much more in just one life. So I think the first thing that we need to look at is to get healthier and fitter.

The second thing that we all must understand is that eating right requires planning. A lot of times we think that maybe celebrities eat right because they just have huge staff moving around and figuring out what they need. But that’s not really the case. They are mostly just really, really sensible and they plan it at once. It’s just like tax needs planning, and what is it that I am going to wear for New Year’s eve needs planning, what is it that I am going to eat tomorrow is going to need some amount of planning. We should plan up to a point where planning then becomes effortless. It’s like learning a new activity – if you start learning to skate then you have to keep telling yourself move the leg and lift it and move it. Then if you keep at it then you skate like a pro then you are still doing the same thing but now you are no longer thinking about it. So, food planning is crucial.

The third most important aspect is sleep. I think it’s the most undervalued aspect of our fitness. The more restorative sleep we get, the more fat we burn. Especially Asians because we are prone to metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, and all of that is linked to the quality of sleep.

Fourth aspect is to celebrate our local cooking style, our culinary wisdom. The west is talking about curcumin, which is haldi, or talking about the curry leaves and a lot of these have medicinal and therapeutic properties which we have often overlooked or taken for granted because they are just a part of our cooking. So we have to, maybe relearn or simply start to value our cooking for what it really is. And then start eating our curries the way they are meant to be in their full glory.

The fifth aspect is follow your own diet plan, make time to exercise, don’t keep jumping from one fad to another.

What are your thoughts on exercise and yoga?

I am working on my third book now where I am talking about exercise. Yoga today has become a multimillion-dollar industry and in that part it has surely gained a lot of popularity. It has also now become a diluted form of discipline. It has moved away a bit from what it is really meant to be. So it isn’t meant to be something you do for a six-pack, or lean waist, or a tight butt, it can do much more than that if you pursue it in the right sense. So there are a whole lot of yoga schools, which remain true. There is Iyengar School of Yoga, the Bihar School of Yoga. There are a few of these yoga schools that if you are following those then it’s fine. If you are just following something, which is promising, you a short-term quick weight loss fix, then it’s not really yoga. It’s okay as of means of group exercise, but it isn’t yoga in its true sense. It isn’t what Patanjali spoke about.

Yes, a lot of it is not getting into the mind aspects of the yoga.

Absolutely! Absolutely. You know, when yoga can really penetrate deep within beyond your physical body all the way into your mental, emotional, intelligent state all the way up to your spiritual self. You should pursue and exercise with the discipline that is required so that you really experience that full change versus just experiencing the change on a physical level.

Tell us about working with Kareena Kapoor.

It has been fun. In a way it has been a life changing experience. I feel very, very privileged to be working with her. We have a long association now – we’ve been working together since 2007. She’s really the most disciplined person that I have ever met. In fact, a lot of things that I can now put in words I really think that I learnt from her. For example, she plans her food at least 2 weeks in advance, even now. When she shot for the song that she did for Dabangg 2, the Fevicol song, she worked for everything in advance. At least 2 weeks in advance so she knows what she would be eating the day she is shooting in between her shots. Or when she takes her holiday with Saif she plans and knows what are the things she will be eating and at what time. She does it with so much effortlessness so you don’t really feel that she is stuck up with her whole diet. She has things planned so it doesn’t come in the way of her life, it becomes life itself for her.

You have also worked with Anupam Kher…

I really think he is one of the most insightful human beings I have ever met. He has terrific insight on almost everything I mean on the way one would sip a coffee to the way one would make a career choice. The one thing I can say about him is that he does not feel limited by his profession. You know sometimes there are professions that are so overwhelming. Like acting for instance, where ever you go people know who you are and then you are expected to be and behave in certain ways. He really is one of those people who doesn’t go by those norms. He explores. Even now I can see him exploring so many aspects of his own life. He is currently traveling the world over giving his inspirational and motivational talk, he has written this great book, The Best Thing About You is You, and he really believes in that philosophy. It is one thing to say something because it sounds great. To follow it is another thing. I really think it takes a man of conviction to say exactly what is in his mind. He really is one of those people. For me, for food planning with him it is really easy because if there is something that he doesn’t feel like eating or there is something he cannot do, he will just tell me. I really appreciate that honesty.

So you have written two books, can you tell us what you wanted to get across with them?

More sensible eating. Listening to one’s stomach because I really believe that the stomach is the biggest diet guru. Through both the books, that is really the message, listen to your own stomach and eat more local food. Celebrate your homegrown food wisdom. A lot of times our families, especially our mothers and grandmothers really know much more about what will suit us in terms of our food than any dietitian. Eat according to your genes so you can fit into the jeans you want! (Laughs)

I am now in fact working on a DVD; the working title is Indian Food Wisdom Versus the Weight Loss Industry. We are talking about how our ancient food wisdom talks about celebrating the taste of every single food that you put into your mouth, about relishing it, about eating as for your appetite. About eating food, which grows, around your place and eating what is in season. Versus the weight loss industry which keeps talking about portion control, which tells you to eat exotic food which you can’t pronounce, which doesn’t grow anywhere on your continent. And the foods just don’t taste good, most of the diet foods really taste like cardboard or they are just liquids they are not even food to begin with. Kareena features as a major part in the DVD because I really think that she is the brand ambassador for eating more local and home cooked food.

She eats all the simple home cooked food and looks exotic. She looks like this glam diva. You know, a lot of people think that if you look like that you are probably eating something that is very glamorous but the key is to eat simple so that you look glamorous.

The gym, reading a good book and having an early night are all part of Saif’s new regime. No smoking and drinking are also part of the list. Saif told TOI- ‘I have become an anti drinking, anti smoking agent’. With Saif looking as good as he does, one finds it hard to believe he is 42. He told TOI, ‘a few years ago, I could put away a few rotis and knock down a couple of drinks without being too conscious. Now, I enjoy the one piece of bread that I eat. I eat it very slowly and have learnt to relish it.’ Saif is feeling the health benefits of these changes too- “It feels great to wake up feeling healthy, awake and alert.”

Not only Saif but Randeep Hooda has quit smoking too. A source on the set of Randeep’s upcoming film Shooter and Ungli told TOI that the withdrawal symptoms are getting to him- “It’s been more than a month since Randeep has quit smoking, but he has become very irritable with everyone present.” However, quitting smoking is tough and also admirable. Randeep’s mood swings are being taken on the chin whilst he adjusts to the changes- “But everyone knows why, and are therefore giving him another month to get over his withdrawal symptoms and get back to being his goofy self.”

In the words of Suman (Maine Pyar Kiya), ‘smoking is injurious to health’. It causes lung cancer, heart disease, and also stinks- in every way. There has always been a smoking related incident for us all- whether it was through peer pressure when growing up or later in life; a habit picked up and difficult to let go of; or watching and worrying about loved ones smoking. According to ash.org.uk ‘smoking causes around 86% of deaths from lung cancer.’ Not only that, but smokers under the age of 40 are ‘five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers.’

The good news is that it is never too late. A year after quitting, the risk of heart attack falls to half of that a smoker; no smoking for 15 years means that your risk is similar to someone who has never smoked. With the Bollywood boys Saif and Randeep quitting, hopefully others, both smokers and non- smokers will follow their lead and aspire to a healthy life style. In Saif’s words to TOI, “If you don’t smoke or drink and respect your body, you can look great at 42.”

However this year Riteish Deshmukh will not be a part of his team as Riteish has how own team Veer Marathi. Sohail says he is going to miss his favourite captain and friend Riteish Deshmukh but on a cheerful note wishes Riteish the best for his team.

Incidentally his team Mumbai Heroes will not have Salman playing for his team. “Salman is an icon now so I can’t take risk with him now. He has gone through a major surgery last year we have to be careful. He could not play the last two seasons because of his illness” informs Sohail.

However Sohail says that Salman will be there to cheer the team as and when he can. “We will visit all the venues and be a part and support our team wherever they are playing” he adds.

While Salman is not part of the team surprisingly being the owner of Mumbai Heroes Sohail too will not be seen on the field. “I was out in the first ball so I was removed from the team” he adds jovially.

Salman or no Salman, it’s going to be interesting watching all the stars sweating out on the cricket field.

The question of Kareena embracing Islam is still in the air, to which Saif Ali Khan’s mother Sharmila Tagore has clearly replied that Kareena Kapoor has not converted to Islam, but she is still the Begum of Pataudi. Defending Saifeena’s absence at the Marrakech Film Festival which she was a part of, Sharmila said,” Saif is busy shooting for Bullet Raja in Lucknow. He was going to take a break but I am glad he didn’t, because he has worked very hard for his character in the film with his accent and the whole rural setting so coming here to party and have fun would distract him. Kareena’s film Talaash has just released so she had to be around as well.”

Talking about Kareena as the ‘daughter-in-law’, Sharmila said that things have not really changed. “Kareena is very calm and composed. I interacted with her during Tiger’s illness and she is a very serene person to be with. I get along well with Babita and Karisma too, in fact I loved Karisma in Dangerous Ishkq and very recently I shared a platform with her. The film didn’t do too well but she was great. Performances matter, even if the film is not too good,” she added. So has Kareena converted to Islam? “No, she has not converted but she is still the Begum of Pataudi because Saif is the Nawaab. He is not comfortable with it, but my opinion is to take traditions seriously. He feels people may mock him and I understand that. But there is no point in denying your past. Maybe he thinks filling in his father’s shoes is a little difficult, but he will get used to it,” she said.

Recently, Sharmila had written a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the Pataudi trophy to which she said she did not get any reply from them, but the letter was leaked to the press and also told us that BCCI made a statement that when India and England will play in the UK it will be called Pataudi trophy, and in India it will be called the Vincent D’Mello trophy. So what did she say to that? “It is their decision. Marylebone Cricket Club had instituted a trophy in 2007 to celebrate 75 years of India and England playing together. Since Tiger’s father played for England and India, the England and Wales Cricket Board also recognised it and invited him, to which he went despite not being well. I don’t know what happened behind the scene since it was not announced. In November, I wrote to the BCCI with a request to make it official to which the president replied and said that the request has been forwarded to the concerned. When it became clear that the match was going to take place and nothing had happened, I wrote to them again. But no actions were taken. One cannot demand honour, only ask for it when they deserve it,” she shrugged.

Talking about missing her husband, she said it is difficult talking about him and the loss is something she cannot express in words. She smiled and said, “Losing him has changed life, but his presence is still felt. I am calmer maybe because he is not there, or else I would be arguing with him. Tiger taught me so many things, he was my mentor. He made me more punctual. His absence makes me realize the importance of his wisdom and makes life simpler for me. He was also my spellcheck. When he was in the hospital, I discussed every single detail of Saif’s wedding invites with him. Now, dictionaries help me. He was a person who always wanted to be correct.”

Vegans can get a bad rap sometimes. I don’t know why that is, maybe because it seems weak to some? I do not think that is the case at all and I think some of the healthiest people on the planet are vegetarians. The one thing I always here is you can’t be a vegetarian and a competitive or elite athlete and I find this further from the truth. Awhile back we did a post on Shakeology which you can read here http://bollyspice.com/48425/vegan-shakeology . You can see the drink is loaded full of all the best nutrients and vitamins any athlete could ever need. So you can see this shake gives you your nutrients most people will complain about not getting enough protein.

Now if your goal is to be a hulking body builder then sure a vegan diet is not going to work for you. Those guys are consuming upwards of 600 grams of protein a day which I think is a bit crazy to begin with. Most people are looking to stay in shape and eat healthy. For the most part vegans eat healthy, but many do not workout. We have been looking at workouts and one that has caught our attention is the Insanity Workout. Chris from the Shake Review site has given an in depth review if insanity here http://theshakereview.com/insanity-workout-review/ for you to take a look at. He is not a vegan, but will be trying a vegan diet in the beginning of 2013. He has known many athletes and even MMA fighters that are on Vegan diets and are in great shape. Chris states that with the Insanity workout you are given 60 days to finish the workout and you will be in the best shape of your life. Take it easy and get through the first two weeks and you will be fine.

Being a vegetarian is a rewarding experience and something I think everyone should try at least once. The reason there are negative reviews about being a vegan still astonish me. If you are a vegan and have thought you do not have what it takes to do an intense workout like insanity does not be afraid. Give it a shot and you will be surprised of how quickly you get in the best shape of your life.

Yash Chopra’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan was complete, except for one song. Cast and crew were all ready to travel to Switzerland in October to shoot the song, because what is a Yash Chopra film without Switzerland? The song was suppose to be a very intense romantic song on the lines of ‘Mere Dil Mein Aaj Kya Hai’, from Chopra’s Daag. Designer Manish Malhotra earlier revealed that we would get to see SRK romance chiffon sari-clad Katrina Kaif in the typical style of Chopra.

Unfortunately the planned shoot and in fact the entire song has now been scrapped. Actor Shah Rukh Khan recently said that Yash Chopra’s sudden death changed everything. “We don’t feel emotionally and mentally ready to go to Switzerland and shoot without Yash ji. You don’t go to Switzerland without Yash Chopra,” says the actor.

He goes on to add that the song won’t be shot at all and will only be played in the background. “We could not shoot for it as Yash ji was unwell. After he passed away, Karan (Johar) said, ‘Should I shoot it?’ But Adi (Aditya Chopra) said, ‘No we are not going to shoot it.’ If the song is not being shot by Mr Yash Chopra in Switzerland, then even I don’t want to shoot it. None of us wants to. The song will now be played in the background. We’ll use some scenes from what Yash ji’s already shot.”

Khan remembers all the great moment he spend with Yashji, who would call him a badmash (rascal). After the shooting of Jab Tak Hai Jaan was over, Yashji told Khan “You’ll make more films but I won’t make another.” Khan reminded him that they still had a song to shoot in Switzerland and Yashji firmly said, “No, that was my last shot!”

To honour Yashji and to celebrate his life and work, wife Pamela Chopra revealed in a statement that a grand premiere will be held on the 12th of november. SRK confirms the news. “Yash Chopra always released his films on Diwali (JTHJ releases on November 13), because his ideology was that it’s a festival of life and happiness. Hope it’s not seen in a wrong sense, but the fact that he’d been making films for the last 50 years, and just 10 days after he made his last film, he passes away — I think in a strange sense is the happiest a filmmaker can be.”

“We as people who’ve experienced him should celebrate what a wonderful and happy life he had. We shall carry forward the reason he made films for, and that was to celebrate life. We are going to have this huge premiere, Insha Allah, on the 12th (of November). To me it has become a little more than a film. That is the best way of giving a tribute or the best way to mourn for Yash Chopra’s passing away and to celebrate the fact that he was a part of our lives. ”

The wedding reception of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor brought Aurangzeb road to a standstill, with everything being set according to the evening. The bungalow had been designed according to the Mughal theme of the reception and was full of guests. Fans were trying their best to get a peek into the celebration, but the security was tight and at least 100 police personnel had been positioned around the venue. The entire place had been decorated with mogra flowers and the stage had been designed with antique props to give it the perfect Mughal feel. The entrance had a much priced possession of the Pataudis- a royal embroidered carpet

Kareena wore a golden gharara with shades of pink designed by Manish Malhotra while Saif donned a Raghavendra Rathore creation. Sharmila Tagore was dressed in an eye catching gold sari and looked completely royal. She spoke to the media and asked them to bless the couple. Saif’s son Ibrahim’s sherwani was also designed by Raghavendra Rathore, while Sara wasn’t spotted in the wedding but was seen in the pre wedding functions.

The guest list for this reception was studded with Bollywood stars and politicians who came to congratulate and bless the couple. Kapil Dev walked in with his daughter Amiya Dev and said he was very happy for the couple. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union ministers Farooq Abdullah and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sitaram Yechury of CPM, BJP leaders Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, MPs Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor with wife Sunanda Pushkar, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur were amongst the politicos who were present. Director Madhur Bhandarkar, actor Nandita Das, ad-man Prasoon Joshi, independent filmmaker Ashvin Kumar, director Imtiaz Ali represented the film fraternity. From the fashion industry were designers Ritu Kumar and Manish Malhotra. Musician Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and artist Anjolie Ela Menon were also present.

Bollywood stars like Kajol and SRK conveyed their wishes for the couple. There were wishes all over twitter for their marriage, and on the other side there were tweets all about their marriage as well.

Kareena and Saif had their registered marriage on 16th October at their Bandra residence, after which was a party at Taj in the evening with their close ones, a guest list of 80 people. The Kapoor khandaan was present and the cousins Ranbir Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor shaked a leg following a performance by Soha Ali Khan and her boyfriend Kunal Khemu. Apparently, Bebo was so overwhelmed with the celebrations that she choked when she thanked her mother for all the arrangements after the wedding. There was a buzz about a function to be held in Pataudi palace too, which the begum of Pataudi and Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore denied. “The celebrations come to an end with the reception in Delhi,” she confirmed.

It’s a busy week for our celebs with Saifeena wedding, big film launches and ofcourse religious festivities. The Dutt family continued their tradition to host Mata ki Chowki at their residence. Time to check out the fashion dos and don’t that we learnt from the attendees on the night.

Geeta Basra stuck to the very seasonal color pallet of candy/pastels and looked quite good in it. Good call pairing it with silver accessories. Small gripe with fitting of the churidar top, anyone else agree with me? Oh and lets pretend the oily makeup is just flashes not being kind.

Verdict: Geeta Basra is reasonably hot

Gul Panag was in the moment of the festivities so kept her outfit to something that didn’t detract from the occasion. Even so with a little effort on hair and makeup this attire could have gone a long way. Its earthy and suited for the event granted I do miss a bit of color in the attire. Pairing it with traditional old school chappals made the look even more earthy.

Verdict: Gul Panag is quite hot.

Now here is a lady who knows the color of the festivities. Dressed in all red was Jaya Bachchan on the night. Seeing as she’s been in overwhelming Abu Jain Sandeep Khosla outfits lately this much more sober design made for a nice change.

Verdict: Jaya Bachchan is Hot

90s item girl Kahkashan Patel was in attendance in an all black churidar. The outfit looks more suited for a cocktail night rather than a mata ki chowki outing. Anyone else feel the same? Inappropriateness of the outfit aside, she looked great in black but that look was let down by the show and bag choice.

Verdict: Not Hot

You’ve heard me saying this many times and I’ll say it again, Kangana is consciously upping her game on the fashion front. And why not, about time the fashionista tag extended people who aren’t a certain Ms Kapoor. Loving Kangana’s look in this unique Sabyasachi. She always picks the best Sabya pieces that give us a break from the sarees/anarkalis Rani & Vidya subject us to. (Which all have started looking the same lately). Black accessorising worked brilliantly for Ms Ranuat except for that bag which seemed a bit off to me. The slightest edition of the bindi was the winning factor for this look.

Verdict: Kangana is REALLY HOT!

Prachi ditched the sarees, anarkali and bright colors for a Rahul Mishra kurti/gown. One to always love bold choices even I have to admit I would have much preferred she stick to the appropriate attire for the event or at least styled this one in a more Desi manner. (She looks more suited to be strutted around at a chic non-religious outing). Inappropriateness aside we can’t take away from Ms Desai that she looked damn hot, minus the shoe choice.

Verdict: Prachi, minus the shoes is REALLY HOT!

Good to see another lady totally in the mood of the festivities. Love the wonderfully Indian attire. You’d think I’d veto this one on the account of it being overwhelming but I really don’t mind the busy work on the gold anarkali. The slightly noticeable running theme of red between the inner lining of the suit and shoe choice works for me. Only thing I’m not feeling is the hair.

Verdict: Raveena-minus the hair- is HOT

Mommy-Shilpa went for a Masaba cow print half n half saree that I’ve fallen in love with! Seeing as Masaba offers this in an array of colors I love that Shilpa opted for this version of the half n half cow print. The entire look is perfection, accessories, hair, bindii and all.

Verdict: Shilpa Shetty is HOT!

A rare day when I don’t feel a Sonali Bendre look! Never thought it would happen but here you go. The dupatta is just ruining the outfit as is that bag. Not sure how this one could be saved in my books because I’m just not liking anything about it.

Verdict: Sonali Bendre is not hot.

Another attire from the night that caught my eye in the worst way possible was that of Ms Malvades. And like Sonali’s attire I really can’t point out how to save this one because it’s just the entire thing that isn’t working.

Verdict: Vidya Malvade is not!

Hostess Manyatta Dutt was in a contrast style blue/pink saree. Brilliant color combo that is perfectly loud enough so as to justify the minimal accessorising.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, beStylish.com, India’s largest online shoe store, hosted a brunch in Mumbai at Mangiamo where Bollywood and Mumbai’s fashion fraternity joined hands to support the Ogaan Cancer Foundation.

As a part of the initiatives planned for the Elle Breast Cancer Campaign, beStylish earlier this month launched an ultra-stylish range of pink footwear – the ‘Pink Ribbon Collection’. 15% of its sales will be directed to the Elle Breast Cancer Campaign. A cheque amounting to Rs. 1,00,000 raised till date from the ‘Pink Ribbon Collection’ was presented this afternoon; for the Ogaan Cancer Foundation by Shailen Amin, CEO, beStylish.com and Shilpa Shetty Kundra.

Hosted by the two founders of bestylish.com- Shailen Amin, CEO, beStylish.com and Abhishek Lal, Director Merchandise, the event was also generously supported by Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Gul Panag, Dia Mirza, Chitrangada Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Malaika Arora Khan, Milind Soman, Minissha Lamba, Dino Morea, Chetan Bhagat, Narendra Kumar Ahmed among others. Each guest presented their personal message to spread awareness for Breast Cancer; at the brunch.

Commenting on the initiative, Shailen Amin, CEO, Bestylish.com said, “It is tough to ignore the statistics that one in 30 women in urban India runs the risk of developing breast cancer. This brunch with Mumbai’s influencers has been designed to aid greater awareness for both breast cancer and timely testing. We hope that our multiple initiatives to support the Elle Breast cancer campaign will help spread awareness for the cause and make an impact on thousands of women in India. At beStylish.com, every October will be a ‘Pink’ October”.

“The Ogaan Cancer Foundation has always adhered to a simple philosophy: one cause, one message – breast cancer awareness and education. Over the years, that philosophy has become a mantra for our many partners and has had an impact we never dreamed possible, touching the lives of tens of thousands of supporters nationwide. We appreciate the initiatives undertaken by BeStylish to help us with our cause.”

Bestylish.com thanks Pernod Ricard India, Suryagarh-Jaisalmer, Baby Cakes, Ambika Pillai and Chambor for their support to the cause.
