Parineeti Chopra the star of the hit Ishaqzaade and younger cousin of superstar and pop star Priyanka Chopra, has spoken out about her fellow professionals stating that, “For people, we are a bunch of newcomers but we are all friends. Varun, Arjun, Alia, Ranveer, Siddharth and Sushant Singh are all my friends. Each one is doing many endorsements so we don’t see it that way. We have fun and enjoy our work. We do it with a lot of joy.”

But believe it or not, there was a time when Parineeti used to hate the acting industry “Yes, I used to think that the profession was an excuse to wear too much makeup, travel far and wide, and make quick money. Let me be more candid. I thought actors were successful for no reason. And everyone at YRF would tell me what a big dramebaaz I was. Anushka Sharma used to call me a dramebaaz - even Rani Mukerji used to tell me the same thing. Slowly I realised acting was no cakewalk. And I started nursing a strong desire to make a splash in Bollywood.”

Well it certainly seems that the Punjabi kuddi has found her place in Bollywood, as she will be seen in Maneesh Sharma’s upcoming untitled film opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, Karan Johar’s Hasee Toh Phasee opposite SOTY star Sidharth Malhotra and Aditya Chopra’s Kill Dil opposite her LVRB co-star Ranveer Singh.

Let’s see how the Ishaqzaadi will fare at the box office and with the critics!

The year was 2001 and we were treated to not one but two amazing Aamir Khan starrers. Both of them were at opposite ends of the creative spectrum, yet they were both absolute masterpieces! One was period drama Lagaan (2001), whilst the other was the ultra-modern, cool and stylish Dil Chahta Hai (2001). For Indian cinema Dil Chahta Hai was a game changer. So much so that it actually won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, over Lagaan, that year. It appealed to urban sentiments, at a time when the multiplexes were about to explode and set a template for actors and actresses to start experimenting with their styles and looks.

The story was simple, yet fresh – three friends (Akash, Sameer and Sid), each one very different in their personality and showed the transition of their lives post-university and the differing impact that has on their relationships and friendship. Dil Chahta Hai was the coming of age story which was missing in Bollywood. It introduced us to the quintessential ‘road trip’ and now the Mumbai to Goa road trip the trio undertake has become an essential part of tourist trail. It introduced us to Sydney in Australia like never before. It was also one of the decisive soundtracks which catapulted musicians Shankar Ehsaan Loy into the limelight, who were aided by imaginative song picturizations. Who can forget the Bollywood parody in ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan’?

From a filmmaking perspective Dil Chahta Hai was a great leap forward. In an industry where bound scripts and screenplays are hard to come by, Farhan Akhtar emerged from a yearlong self-imposed exile in his bedroom, with a fully bound script, packed with memorable scenes and dialogues. Who can forget the “Be a man” dialogue, where Aamir taunts Saif into standing up to his pushy girlfriend? Or the end scene where Akash (Aamir) and Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna) patch up, with Akash delivering the line “It’s hard to improve perfection!” Many of those scenes and dialogues have become folklore!

Dil Chahta Hai was fully sound-synched, where live sound recording was used whilst the actors were delivering their lines, rather than being typically dubbed over again in the studio, as with most Hindi films. Farhan paid particular attention to styling his actors, a feature which has become the mainstay of Aamir’s roles ever since. It was such a strong feature of the film and its characters, that it was even referred to as a source of inspiration in Karan Johar’s Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), starring Shah Rukh Khan.

From a filmmaking perspective Farhan’s fresh approach set a standard for many young filmmakers to follow. More time was spent in writing and pre-production, fifteen months, over shooting the film itself, a mere four months. That too in an industry where films are launched and churned out with alarming regularity. The film was also based partly on Farhan’s personal diaries and stories of friends and couples he knew, which helped add to realism of the characters and situations.

Such an iconic film and to think Abhishek Bachchan turned down the part of Sid, which Akshaye later played. With all the current talk of Sridevi’s successful comeback in English Vinglish (2012), you could say the same for Dimple Kapadia in Dil Chahta Hai, whom Farhan managed to convince to come out of retirement and join the cast. The tagline of Dil Chahta Hai was “welcome to a summer of their lives you will never forget”. That’s one tagline which still rings true today…

Four directors – One story! These stories are the ones they always wanted to say! What happens when they all meet up to direct one? The 4 director have come together to tell you a story like never before to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. A film about love, sorrow, pain and desire. A film to celebrate the emotion of Cinema. Bombay Talkies

From our 4 star review: In Karan Johar’s short, Rani Mukherjee and Randeep Hooda, husband-wife duo both working in media spaces, share a marriage of respect and adoration but one that’s bereft of physical intimacy. A friendly intern (Saqib Saleem) enters their life, nudges at their relationship’s surface and skeletons tumble out.

Dibakar Banerjee’s protagonist Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a sluggish theatre actor, regales his bedridden daughter with tales of Bollywood and Bollywood-walas, whilst he is forced to question his passion and the purpose of his life.

In Zoya Akhtar’s film, school-going Vicky (Naman Jain) allured by the latka-jhatkas of onscreen Sheela i.e. Katrina Kaif, confides his dream of pursuing dance with his sibling-comrade (Khushi Dubey) against the wishes of his tyrant father (Ranveer Shorey) who instead coaxes him to practice sports.

Lastly, Anurag Kashyap’s tale of the common fan’s blind faith in the power of superstars has his leading actor Vijay (Vineet Kumar Singh) travel from Allahabad upon the insistence of his father to meet Amitabh Bachchan!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njzTBH8mZLU

Stay tuned we will have much more coming from Cannes!

Starring Ruslaan Mumtaz, Chetna Pande

Directed by Amit Kasaria

The trouble with a well-meaning film such as this is it cannot take the story and characters to their logical conclusion and somewhere ends up ‘tale’-diving at crucial junctures in the plot.

To begin with, we are introduced to Yuvaan and his college friends in Delhi whose only past time is chasing dreams, preferably wet, and in short skirts. The ogling, gawking, giggling, nudging winking references to campus courtship, though neatly filmed by cameraman Saurav Vishwakarma, occupies much too much space in the first hour of the story when we we are told, with far less subtlety than needed, that Yuvaan is an incorrigible flirt.

Yuvaan says he believes in “sex at first sight” and he isn’t joking. Later when he gets into a sexual situation with a girl, he jumps off his bedroom windowsill. This guys needs a shrink for his hard-ons.

Enter the NRI beauty, all sweetness and kindness played by newcomer Chetna Pande. Now here’s where the plot needed to get piping hot. We wait to see Yuvaan soften the innocent short-skirted campus queen, a sort of Delhi University version of Rani Mukherjee in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and push her to do things she, and he would regret later.

Instead the film goes into long-winded explanations on how Yuvaan doesn’t really mean any harm even when he ends up making sexual advances towards the trusting girl. Where the script should have shown Yuvaan as a young sexually over-active lout who takes advantage of the guileless girl it instead shows Yuvaan too as a victim and places all the blame for the MMS scandal on the over-zealous electronic media for over-sensationalizing the recorded clipping that “accidentally” gets on Yuvaan’s phone and “ accidentally” leaks out.

Though the efforts to portray the perpetrator as a victim are way too feeble and unconvincing the film does make some hard hitting comments on the excessive scandal-mongering of television channels.

The predicament of a hapless unsuspecting girl whose intimate clipping with her boyfriend gets leaked out, was far more poignantly put forward in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D. I Don’t Luv U tries to balance out too many moral issues and ends up neither here nor there. Nonetheless tackling a theme as provocative as a sex scandal is not easy. The film tries to weave a tender gentle love story around an MMS scandal. Thought provoking but not salacious, the film derives a modicum of credibility quotient from Ruslaan Mumtaz and Chetna Pandey’s sincere performances.

Ruslaan does the emotional scenes far more fluently than the campus flirt act. That’s the problem here. The film takes up a sexual theme. But its heart is just not in it.

According to Daily Bhaskar, Dhulia revealed: “Hrithik and I are doing a film together. It will start in June 2013. But it is not ‘Hamlet’ as reported in the press. We are doing something else together.” This film will be set in North India and is based on a semi-rural fable of violence and drama.

Hamlet is Shakespeare’s longest play with just over 4,000 lines and tells the tale of tragic prince Hamlet, who seeks revenge for his father’s murder. It has been adapted in over fifty television and film productions – in fact, Disney’s popular Lion King is based on this Shakespearian play. The character of melancholic prince Hamlet has been played by actors such as Kenneth Branagh and Mel Gibson. This was not the first time plans were made to cast Hrithik as Hamlet. Tarsem Singh had planned a production where Hrithik was to be Hamlet back in 2001. However, the project did not happen. It seems that Hrithik and Hamlet are just not meant to be.

“Bollywood is big,” says Polly Morgan, the Hollywood cinematographer who is in India to direct music videos for UTV Motion Pictures’ Ghanchakkar. Morgan, a Hollywood cinematographer critically acclaimed for her films Inception, Hairspray, V for Vendetta and Head In The Clouds among others, shot two music videos for the Emraan Hashmi-Vidya Balan starrer.

Asked why she took on the project, she said, “When I heard the concept of the shoot, I really liked it. I have heard that Bollywood is really big, and it seemed like a nice opportunity to experience what working in the industry feels like. I had seen the work of Emraan and Vidya before I came and it was really exciting to work with the superstars of Bollywood.“

From what she knows, Polly is all praise for the Indian him industry. She commented, “Bollywood has made its presence felt in the west. The industry is the biggest in volume of production and ticket sales. I love Indian movies — from gritty films to grand song-and-dance sequences, Bollywood has something for everyone. No wonder the films are so successfully even in the west.”

Asked about the difference in working style of Bollywood and Hollywood actors, she added, “I found Emraan and Vidya to be thorough professionals just like any Hollywood actor. They are fantastic to work with. They are very talented, so shooting with them was very smooth. I loved every bit of shooting the two music videos with them. I am really looking forward to seeing the reaction from the audiences.”

Set to release on June 28th, Ghanchakkar is a crazy, quirky rollercoaster suspense ride that will surprise, shock and entertain you at every turn. When Sanjay (Emraan Hashmi), a suave, master safe cracker wants to retire from a career in crime, he decides to team up with two dangerous criminals to commit one last heist. A bank robbery that will ensure that he never has to worry about money again. Everything goes according to plan – in the wee hours of the morning, a bank vault is broken into and emptied of its contents of 350 million rupees. Sanjay is given the task of hiding the money till things cool down. Two months later Sanjay’s associates return to collect their share of the loot, but to their horror discover that Sanjay has lost his memory in an accident. Is he pretending? Or does he really have no recollection of the robbery and where the money is hidden? Will he be able to find the stash before a bullet finds him?

According to the sources, Pallavi would be cast opposite Mithun Chakraborty in this political thriller. The film would also star newcomers Kartik Tewari and Mishti.

Pallavi, who would supposedly be playing a politician in the film, is quite excited at grabbing the offer. She would not only be playing the love interest of Mithun Chakraborty but will also get a chance to share the screen space with veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and Om Puri. The talented actress recently shared that though she has a small role to play in the film, she is quite looking forward to it. “It is a cameo. But when Subhash Ghai asked me, I didn’t think twice. I wanted to experience working for the big screen. And it was easy for the makers to cast me because the look is exactly like that of Padmini”, said Pallavi.

The shooting for the film has already begun and Pallavi, who was initially anxious about shooting with the seasoned actor Mithun Chakraborty recently shared that she is enjoying the experience now. “I am very happy being a part of Subhash Ghai’s films. More than that I am happy that I am being paired opposite the veteran, handsome, talented and amazing actor Mithun Chakraborty. I am lucky enough to get an opportunity to work with him”, shared the popular television actress. “Shooting for a film is so systematic and disciplined”, she added.

The bubbly actress also mentioned that she has been approached for certain other movie projects as well. “I am getting more offers in Bollywood, but I am waiting for the right opportunity to knock at my doors. I am not being choosy but I prefer that the role I do should have an impact”, she said.

However, we as an audience can associate him most with his role in the comedy series Golmaal. This time he is back again with another movie from the comedy genre – War Chhod Na Yaar!

Although he claims that his choice of movies is strictly based on the script of the movie, he has returned back to the comedy genre time and again. This can be proven by his association with each and every installment from the Golmaal series, after every serious movie he has done.

Even though he has declined to be a part of Golmaal Returns, he is busy with his upcoming film, War Chhod Na Yaar, the first War Comedy movie of India.

War Chhod Na Yaar is Sharman’s next release after his portrayal of a father struggling to make his son’s dreams come true in Ferrari Ki Sawaari. Does this pattern give a strong indication that comedy is home ground for Sharman that he keeps returning to again and again?

War…Chhod Na Yaar! is India’s first War Comedy, starring Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan, Javed Jaffrey and Sanjay Mishra. Not only is the movie a satirical take on the conditions of the armed forces of two countries engaged in a war, but it also tries to shed some light on some ‘So Called’ reasons behind one such unwanted war.

Produced under the Yash Raj banner, Aurangzeb is one of those films that expose the darker side of the Gurgaon and the National Capital Region. The movie depicts how the nexus of the corporate houses and politicians take corruption to a whole new level. It takes a lot of guts and audacity to present the tug of war of a real estate arena to the celluloid. I must say that Atul Sabharwal to that extent has done quite a good job. Read on to find out more!

ACP Arya (Prithhviraj Sukumaran) is from a Family of Cops and follows his paternal uncle (and godfather) Ravikant (Rishi Kapoor). Ravikant raises Arya as his own son and has a very happy family in the form of his son Dev (Sikander), who is also a cop, his wife (Deepti Naval) and a daughter who is also the wife of a policeman.

Arya approaches Ravikant for help for a clean chit to his late father (Anupam Kher), who was killed in an encounter. The last thing that Arya’s father tells his son is about his second wife and son Vishal (Arjun Kapoor). His father’s words being etched in his mind, Arya sets out with Ravikant to do justice to his step-mother Veera (Tanvi Azmi) and brother Vishal.

In a parallel world, Yashwardhan (Jackie Shroff) is a gangster who has an empire of real estate in the National Capital Region. He is teamed up with Neena (Amrita Singh), who is his fling and partner in crime. Yashwardhan’s son Ajay (Arjun Kapoor again!), who is totally insensitive towards emotions and the realities of life has seen a very wealthy life. Ritu (Saseh Agha), is one girl who is blindly in love with Ajay and puts up with his abuse. What follows is a happenstance of the twins when they find their lives tangled by the cops.

Prithviraj, the Malayalee sensation has made a good comeback after his sloppy start in Aiyya. Kudos to his Hindi and the man himself, who has what it takes to be one of the most successful rookies of the industry. Prithviraj is one such person in the movie who has lived his character quite superbly.

Arjun Kapoor as Vishal and Ajay has done well, while Rishi Kapoor comes across us as an actor par excellence who can still deliver a product so flawless. Saseh Agha does get bold and intimate in some scenes in the film, but has to have some substance. There are times in the movie when she gets very annoying with very little or no acting.

Dialogues are apt and well timed in the movie. Cinematography by Kartik Ganesh is quite laudable and makes the movie really interesting. The movie does live up to its name and fame until before the climax which is totally predictable. We’re all told Aurangzeb proclaimed that ‘kinship shouldn’t come in the way of kingship.’, which the climax of the movie does support.

In the end, we will go with 2.5 for Atul Sabharwal’s Aurangzeb
