It will come as a surprise to many tourists and Bollywood fan who visit Turkey to find a café named after the most loved actor Salman Khan. The reason… while shooting for the soon to release Ek Tha Tiger Salman Khan and the film crew regularly visited a Café Del-Mar as it was close to their shooting location in Mardin, Turkey. Salman noticed with a few tweaks the place could be spruced up for tourists and locals alike. so he set on suggesting some changes starting with the sound system.

Director Kabir Khan added, “In Mardin, this café was our only hangout. The music system wasn’t very good, so Salman sent someone to get a better one. He installed it at the café, played new music and, after the shoot, left the sound system there.”

After the actor bought in the new sound system he, with the consultation of the cafe manager and staff members, got the decor, food and beverages revamped. The cast and crew was soo well acquainted with the staff of the café that even Salman’s stylish Angela Rebello would be allowed in the kitchen to whip up some dishes for the cast. A source from the unit said, ”He (Salman) started with the decor and music and went on to the food and beverage menu. Towards the end of our stay, Café Del-Mar was a completely new place!”

Therefore, as a gesture of gratitude the owner of the café changed the name from Café Del-Mar to Salman Khan Café.

A Yash Raj Films spokesperson confirmed, “Café Del-Mar is now referred to as Salman Khan Café as its identity has changed. They used to look forward to having Salman and the entire gang visit every day.”

So whenever you visit Turkey dont forget to check out the place.

Ek Tha Tiger will be released on 15 August.

Holiday Inn has long been considered one of the best and most loved of hotel chains around the world. The Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum is the chain’s flagship hotel in London. Not only is it the largest Holiday Inn in the world but it also offers a wide variety of vibrant activities all year round.

Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum has been responsible for bringing themed events to London such as Salsa nights, Sunday jazz brunches and its most popular offering ‘The Caribbean Experience’. With over a decade’s experience in organising successful themed nights, the property is now proud to be hosting a Bollywood themed evening on Saturday 5th November 2011.

‘The Bollywood Experience’ promises to bring together a unique blend of great ‘desi’ food and some ‘mast’ live entertainment in the form of popular Hindi singer Shery Hassan and professional Bollywood dancers.

Our partners for this event are Guglee Restaurant (authentic Indian food) and Bombay Funkadelic (specialised entertainment).

Guglee is a modern Indian restaurant in Swiss Cottage, serving truly authentic Indian cuisine. All their dishes are influenced by food traditionally eaten across India, from authentic street food snacks to curries consumed by commuters on the railways. For real Indian food check out www.guglee.co.uk

Bombay Funkadelic is a unique London-based company that specialises in organising and hosting Indian and Bollywood themed parties and events. Running since 2005, Bombay Funkadelic’s monthly club night has become a key fixture on the capital’s desi nightlife scene, regularly attracting an eclectic mix of British, Asian and Non-Resident Indian party goers who love the cheeky retro atmosphere, kitsch decor and musical entertainment provided by resident DJ Shai Guy. Find out more at www.bombayfunkadelic.com.

Founder, Jaspreet Pandohar, is enthusiastic about Bombay Funkadelic’s partnership with Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum and Guglee Restaurant. “Bollywood has always been a big draw in the UK and Bombay Funkadelic has worked hard to combine the energy and colour of both its movies and music to create a distinctive night out. Along with Holiday Inn and Guglee, we hope to make The Bollywood Experience the top desi dining and entertainment event in London.”

Jon Beecroft, General Manager of Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum, is thrilled about this new venture. “Guests will not only sample the fabulous cuisine on offer, but also get to feast their eyes on the grand Forum Restaurant and adjoining banqueting suite which will be decorated top to toe with a touch of Bollywood glitz and glamour.”

Join us for an evening of ‘naach, gaana and mazedar khaana’ on Saturday 5th November and be prepared to be impressed.

Those balmy breezes and cooler nights are upon us and what better way to avoid them than to escape! With the arrival of the ‘holiday season’, millions of people across the globe, pack there bags in hope to find a place which accentuates the recreation of winter or transports them far far away. But where? Bollywood Spice brings you a special winter holiday special.

10. Cape Town and Robben Island – South Africa – Average winter temperatures of 25 degrees make Cape Town all the more inviting. It’s a fantastic place, not just for cosmopolitan life but just outside, they’ve got wine lands and whale watching and a lot of adrenalin sports so it’s a great place for a winter holiday. The weather’s great, with fantastic culture and beautiful scenery.

9. Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort – Canada – This place defines what winter’s about. For skiing, tobogganing or making snowmen in winter, Whistler is the perfect spot. The winter Olympics were held here in 2006 and certainly lived up to its expectations, so this destination is really hot right now.

8. Gold Cost, Australia – Get away from chilly winters, to the hub of sun, sand and surf. The Gold Coast, Australia’s largest tourist attraction, not only offers the warmth of the pristine beaches, but is also famous for its theme parks. An ideal family getaway, to explore the lands down under.

7. Andorra – Located in Southwestern Europe between France and Spain, Andorra is an ideal adventure holiday destination. From snow – sports to walking to mountain biking, you’ll discover that the small nation of Andorra punches well above its weight when it comes to action and adventure.

6. The Algarve, Portugal – The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal and it’s one of Europe’s favourite holiday destinations well known for glorious year round sunshine and excellent sandy beaches. Located on the tip of Europe with the vast ocean of the Atlantic as its southern and western border, this enviable position gives this region possibly the most unpolluted climate in the European continent.

5. Switzerland – Most of us have only seen Switzerland in a Yash Chopra film, and wouldn’t even consider it as a holiday destination, but as it turns out, it’s quite a popular holiday spot. Switzerland is one of the most scenic destinations on our lists, with snow covered mountains of the Alps and spacious planes of greenery. Any chocoholics heaven, Switzerland is the home of the world’s most irresistible chocolate.

4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The scenic beauty of the Sultanate of Oman, together with a wide range of activities to entertain tourists, is making it a popular holiday destination. The all – year sunshine, beaches and tax free shopping attract many visitors. The famous Dubai Shopping Festival from 20 December to 2 February, provides a haven for all the women in the world.

3. Mauritius – Mauritius is a picturesque island with thickly wooded mountain peaks and sugar cane fields that border the beautiful coast of the Indian Ocean. Mauritius is known for it’s crystal clear waters and soft white sandy beaches. Unique features in Mauritius include the extinct volcanoes dotted around the island. The varied landscape, good quality hotels and water sports facilities along with the stunning beaches make Mauritius an excellent beach holiday destination.

2. Prague – The magical city of bridges, cathedrals, gold – tipped towers and church domes, whose image has been mirrored in the surface of the Vltava river for more than ten centuries. Prague is also a modern European metropolis full of energy, music, and art. It’s a place where different architectural styles stand cheek by jowl, creating an atmosphere that’s both intimate and romantic, and quite impossible to forget once you visit. A ‘winter wonderland’ awaits visitors to the Prague Christmas Markets. Soak up the atmosphere, browse the stalls and enjoy hearty food and hot wine.

1. Hawaii – Aloha! What better place for a winter escape than the beautiful Hawaiian islands, a place which is truly considered paradise. With tropical food, exotic localities and a generally relaxed atmosphere, Hawaii provides a home away from home for all those looking for a stress – free holiday. With an array of black sand, white sand and even green sand beaches, snorkeling, diving and surfing are just few of the many activities that Hawaii has to offer. This beautiful location was bound to be number one on our winter holiday destination list!

Looking for a cheap yet beautiful place to take your girl out? . . . Then look no further because I’m here to fulfil your wishes! . . . Wow! Was that not a corny line or what? But I just couldn’t figure out how else to introduce this park. The phrase “cheap yet beautiful” is barely EVER put together to describe anything because in our time you can never find anything gorgeous without an equally “gorgeous” price tag, what can I say, its just the reality of things. But Roosevelt Island Park is definitely the PERFECT place to have a date. Entrance to the park is completely free, there is even a parking lot, all you have to do is bring your own food for picnics and don’t forget to clean up afterwards. It’s located along the border of Queens and Manhattan in New York City not far from the train station. Anyone can easily take the F train to the Roosevelt Island Park and if you get lost, just ask around because the people around there are quite nice. It’s honestly VERY romantic because of its neat hills of grass and beautiful view of both Queens and Manhattan. Its quiet, clean and definitely a safe place to visit. The park consists of just grassy hills, separated by pathways that travel all around the park and some shady trees to sit under. There is also an area with some picnic tables and some private booth type tables that are facing the Manhattan side of the park. Not to forget the huge lighthouse at the peak of the park. It is quite old but then again I hear that vintage is in. The pathways traveling all around the park give you a different view of some of the bridges and buildings of Manhattan.

I say different because it isn’t the typical view of Manhattan seen in the postcards but still beautiful none the less. It’s such a simple park yet there is so much to do. You can go fishing , have a family picnic, have a date, go biking around the park or just walk around to take in the peaceful essence of the park. The best part is the absolutely PERFECT sunset. The entire park seems so serene, and the view just cant be described in words.

Roosevelt Island is a family secret of mine, my entire excessively loud Bengali family goes there for our family picnics at least 3 or 4 times a year in the summer time. I have quite a young family so if you happen to bump into a large loud group of Bengali looking people with about 20 or so pre-teens and toddlers trailing after, don’t be shy about saying hi!
