It was an evening to remember as Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar saab launched Abhishek Chaubey and Honey Trehan’s new production house ‘MacGuffin Pictures’ at an event held on Tuesday.
The media and the industry came forward in full force to support the launch of the duo’s new production house and their first production ‘A Death In The Gunj’ that marks the directorial debut of Konkona Sen Sharma.
The actress has also written the script for the film. A Death in the Gunj is a coming of age story set in 1979, about a shy student Shyamal Chatterjee. He uses a family road trip to an odd Anglo-Indina town as an escape from his failed semester. At the outset, the makings of a perfect family outing are in place but something is amiss. In the week that follows Shyamal’s quiet struggled goes unnoticed by his family and friends who are caught up in there own complexities. A series of events and an unexpected love affair forces Shyamal to fact the blurred lines of what is accepted in society and question his own space in the world. The everyday callousness of the adults around him contributes to his intense feelings of isolation despite being surrounded his family. The emotional violence that we as a society inflict upon others unwittingly is what cumulatively leads to a kind of destruction that is irrevocable.
The film also sees the revival of IDrream Production as IDrream Motion Pictures with their new venture Studioz IDrream.
The event was attended by Rahul Dholakia, Vipul A Shah, Satish Kaushik, Meghna Gulzar as well as the entire star cast of the film including Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Gulshan Devaiah, Tillotama Shome, Vikrant Massey, Jim Sarbh and Tanuja.
The film will go on floors on 25th January, 2016.
