Aamir Khan, considered by many to be the most powerful personality in Bollywood, is 44 years old today. The last five years have seen one hit after another for Aamir — The Rising, Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Taare Zameen Par and Ghajini. He’s currently working on Three Idiots with Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Kajol, Madhavan and Mona Singh.
Aamir claims his approach to filming is not to do different things but to try to do them differently. “I don’t think filmmaking is a race, it’s an art form, an emotional connect with work,” he adds, “My thrill lies in breaking barriers, in doing unusual stuff, I lead with my heart. If I like a story, I do it. That’s how it was with Lagaan, the first film I produced, I went ahead because I liked the script and nobody else was willing to produce it. I want to take my work to another level not seen before. When I pick up a story, I want to achieve it to its full potential. I live for the moment and in the moment I am in. What excites me is what I am doing now.”
If you’re beginning to get withdrawal symptoms from not having seen Ghajini for a while, you can assuage them by purchasing the limited edition Ghajini statuette based on Aamir’s character in the movie which goes on sale today. “The response to Ghajini has been overwhelming and Aamir’s performance has been much appreciated by audiences across the world and it makes us feel very proud to unveil the limited edition Ghajini statuette on his birthday,” explains Madhu Mantena, the co-producer of the movie.
