Over 6 feet tall, deep voice, perfectionists, excellent actors in their respective genre of acting… and that’s where the similarities end. Being offered a role previously acted by Amitabh Bachchan, a legend of Indian cinema, is surely a scary experience. Anyone would be doubtful to take that challenge. Hrithik Roshan is no exception.
Like the rest of us, Hrithik grew up watching Mr. Bachchan act in different roles. Acting in the remake of his iconic film, when comparisons are bound to occur, can be a strong motivation to say ‘NO’. That’s what Hrithik said to Karan Johar, the producer of ‘Agneepath’ when it was first offered to him. But Karan Johar did not give up and asked Hrithik to ‘at least hear it’.
Karan Malhotra, the director, was asked to go to Spain and narrate the script to him, with a belief that Hrithik wouldn’t refuse after hearing the treatment of the film. Malhotra was there for three hours and it seems the trip was worth it!
As Karan Malhotra started narrating the story, it started drawing Hrithik into its charm. An actor who is known to demand a retake of the shoot if it is not up to his satisfaction, who constantly continues to rehearse the scenes in his mind even while on break, had no trouble in imagining this as a future hit.
The story is inspired by the original and keeps the same character names, after all, who can ever forget ‘Vijay Dinanath Chauhan’ and ‘Kancha’? The change in Vijay’s journey and his completely different character treatment was what made Hrithik attracted to the role and completely excited to take on the story and character. In fact, it just took Hrithik precisely 5 minutes to give his ‘YES’ for the movie.
A challenge was now before Hrithik Roshan but he has stepped up to it! We are sure adding his personal touch and the instincts which have made him a super star he will make the most of this character. Now all we have to do is wait until January 2012 for Hrithik Roshan to come on screen with his Vijay Dinanath Chauhan persona in the year’s most awaited Agneepath.
