Jodhaa Akbar Box Office Worldwide Exceeds Expectations

Jodhaa Akbar starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has had a huge worldwide opening at the box office. According to UTV totals from around the world for the first weekend are at Rs 385 million.

In India, Jodhaa Akbar had an outstanding first weekend especially in the big cities of Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. The film grossed Rs 250 million ($6,250,000) and that is with some theaters that did not open the film until Saturday.

It had the second biggest opening ever for a Bollywood film in the US. The film grossed approximately Rs 64 million, ($1,600,000) with a Friday opening of $374,000, that is second only to Om Shanti Om’s $385,000 first day gross.

The film in the UK also had an amazing opening with a box-office return of Rs 28 million ($713,000) with 70 prints released.

Around the rest of the world the film did wonderfully as well, in the Gulf the take was Rs 18 million ($ 460,000), in Australia the box office reached Rs 5 million ($ 135,000) and the total for other countries releasing the film was Rs 15 million ($ 380,000).

Siddharth Roy Kapur, director of United Motion Pictures said, “Jodhaa Akbar has performed and exceeded our expectations. We are thrilled with the response from audiences and critics worldwide. These collections are testimony to the fact that a great movie will find its audience.”
