Debutant director, Siddharth Malhotra regards Karan Johar as his guru and has said that he will continue to work only with Dharma Productions until he is kicked out.
The We Are Family director has apparently been getting handsome offers from the film industry, but maintains that he has learnt everything from Sooraj Barjatya and Karan Johar who he says are his teachers. Malhotra was an associate director in Barjatya’s Vivaah.
“I always wanted to make Stepmom and was sure to make it at some point. My writers started working on it early on. Luckily, the first draft of the script was ready,” he sad speaking about his movie.
We Are Family stars Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal and is based on Hollywood’s Stepmom. Malhotra says that he already anticipated the two actresses for their roles ever since he decided to make the film. He wanted “a man so handsome that any woman would fight for him” and so, Arjun Rampal was cast as the male lead.
Speaking about Rampal, Malhotra says, “When you are making a film where the heroines are the hero, you need a hero who understands it and still gives his cent per cent. Arjun is there in every frame of the film.”
The director explains that while We Are Family is not a complete duplicate of Stepmom, there are a few scenes which are similar to the original “because those scenes are what you remember Stepmom for,” he says.
