Recently, top naatch girl Rakhi Sawant explained why her drive and motivation wasn’t so hard to understand. “Growing up, my family was very poor,” she explains, “I’ve seen days when I didn’t have money for food. So I started working when I was just 11-years-old to help my mother run the home. I worked for a catering company as a waitress. I would earn Rs 50 a day and if I did two shifts, Rs 100 – about $2. I used to see these designer shops and think to myself that one day I want to be able to purchase all that these stores had to offer. I really didn’t want to be poor forever – so I had to think of a way to do it.”

The slimmer, more elfin Rakhi is currently looking forward to the new series of the dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha, where she’s expected to lead the girls team. “I want to prove to everyone that girls are not just pretty, but are also intelligent and are great dancers,” she says, “I will tell them how important it is to rehearse very seriously. You need to give it your 100 per cent and be completely involved in your dance.”

Rakhi is unfazed by the news that her ex-boyfriend Abhishek Avasthi may be leading the boys team in the series. “I am a performer,” she insists, “Whoever comes and performs, be it Abhishek Avasthi, Shah Rukh or Aamir Khan, I am going to fight equally. I don’t care for anyone. I am not scared of any one. The girls team will win for sure.”
