Salman Khan has lost his appeal to overturn a five year prison sentence given to the actor for the killing of a chinkara deer (an endangered animal) in 1998. The district and sessions judge Kamal Raj Singhvi upheld the decision of the lower court and now the actor must turn himself in or be arrested.

The actor was not in the courtroom during the trial because of missing a flight from Hyderabad where is he shooting a film, it was reported. However, Dipesh Mehta who is Salman’s chief counsel said he was not required to be there.

Salman will appeal this sentence again to a higher court. Mehta said, “We would certainly file a review petition in high court as soon as possible. We expect to get the certified copy of the judgment today. We would study it and file it soon.”

In a statement made outside the actor’s home in Bandra, Mehta added, “The (court’s) order is 76 pages long. We will read it and file a revision application in the Rajasthan High Court on Monday, following which Salman will travel with me to Jodhpur to surrender.”

An arrest warrant has been issued for the actor however; the hope is that once they apply to the high court, he will be granted 7 days to surrender.
