Shiamak is known as the Guru of Dance, and has choreographed some of the best dance pieces for stage and screen. To celebrate the choreographer’s birthday, we thought we would shine the light on his work in films! He truly has an eye for creating incredible creativity with his choreography on screen and we know you will enjoy watching every one.

‘Dhoom Again’ – Dhoom 2
The huge success of Dhoom 2 helped to solidify Hrithik Roshan’s career and no doubt his remarkable dance performance in the opening song ‘Dhoom Again’ showed him at his finest. Shiamak was of course responsible for the jaw-dropping choreography that can be seen throughout the song. It’s bold, edgy and something which we have never really seen in Bollywood before. Kudos to Shiamak on giving the song a big ‘dhoom!’

‘Dance Pe Chance’ – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
This is another iconic song and Shiamak managed to splash in a lot of humour in the dance moves led by Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan. ‘Dance Pe Chance’ has some great moves that runs with the catchy music and sees Anushka teaching Shah Rukh how to dance as she performs also. We very much appreciate the moves that have been delivered in this song as it is one of few that has been well choreographed, as well as funny in places too.

‘Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte’ – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
This dream sequence is a celebration of 50 years of Bollywood. It begins with an amazing visual that shows Shiamak’s flare for the extraordinary and we know we are in for some Bollymagic. The hat rises to reveal the ever gorgeous Kajol as Nargis. Shah Rukh enters channeling Raj Kapoor and we are in the Bollywood of 1950. We are then transported to the 1960s world of Shah Rukh as Dev Anand with Bipasha Basu making an appearance as Sadhana. We also see SRK transform to play Shammi Kapoor with Lara Dutta’s Helen. We move to the 70s with the actor becoming Rajesh Khanna while Preity Zinta represents Sharmila Tagore. Rani Mukerji joins in the fun playing Neetu Singh to SRK’s Rishi Kapoor! This is truly an one of a kind video. The choreography and even more the visuals recreating the scenes, the songs and the choreography of these stars and their movies is a picturization to remember and one of the best we have ever seen! A MUST watch!

Bunty Aur Babli title song – Bunty Aur Babli
Amitabh Bachchan gets his cool groove and some rap on for this song. It is unexpected but so wicked! Backed up by some killer moves, you have to check this out because you have never seen Big B like this before!

‘Nach Baliye’ – Bunty Aur Babli
Again Shiamak shows his amazing conception for what a song and dance sequence could be! With a great song and innovative ideas this makes a cool scene! Be sure to watch out for a special appearance by Shiamak.

‘Le Gayi’ – Dil To Pagal Hai
Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) marked Shaimak’s debut as a choreographer and boy did he pull it off successfully. One of the highlights of the film was the popular number ‘Le Gayi’, which has spectacular western dance sequences, interspersed with some groovy Indian dance moves. Karisma Kapoor managed to give it her all in this song and it is highly considered to be one of the best dance performances of her career. No doubt Shiamak played a big role in this as it was due to his teaching and direction that the music video turned out to have spectacular picturization to it, as well as memorable dance moves!

‘Koi Ladhki Hai’ – Dil To Pagal Hai
One of my favorite dance sequences on film. From the first notes of the kids, to their happy dancing in the rain, to Shah Rukh Khan joining in – it is just full of everything that is perfect for this song. The Queen of Dance aka Madhuri Dixit joins in and it gets even better! The scene outside the hospital with Karisma tells another tale and fits the movie perfectly. Then entire sequence is so full of the joy of dance!

Dance Medley – Dil To Pagal Hai
A show full of fab Shiamak choreography that features Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan. Need we say more? Just watch and enjoy!

The Dance of Envy – Dil To Pagal Hai
Shiamak choreography at its best! The modern jazz technique as well as the beauty of the classical dance moves mixed together is brilliant. The dancers must have loved doing this piece. Madhuri, of course, shines in the beginning. The dance battle with Madhuri and Karishma is a classic!

‘Are Re Are’ – Dil Toh Pagal Hai
Shiamak certainly knows how to set a scene and show his dancers off and he does it once again in this great piece. The almost paso doble like Spanish flavored section with SRK and Madhuri is a highlight of the dance sequence.

‘Bum Bum Bole’ – Taare Zameen Par
Even with just one star and no back-up dancers Shiamak really shows the music and the fun and frolic of this scene and song with his moves for Aamir Khan in ‘Bum Bum Bole’. We bet you are trying the bum bum move now or at least happy dancing with Aamir and the kids to this great track.

Genie Rap – Aladin
Big B is the coolest genie we have ever seen and he shows it off in this song from Aladin. Once again, Shiamak gets Bachchan to tap into his down right bad (in a good way) avatar and he kills it. Add in the sexy back up dancers and Riteish Deshmukh grooving to the beat and you have the makings of a mad sequence for the rap track where “the bass is fat”!

‘Kahin Aag Lage’ – Taal
Let’s see… bring together music by AR Rahman, singing by the legendary Asha Bhosle and Aditya Narayan, add in that the video is picturized on Aishwarya Rai with choreography by Shiamak and you know you have something special. With amazing opulent sets in some of the scenes, this shows, once again, that Shiamak has an amazing vision when it comes to creating his dance numbers. Here’s some trivia, if you look closely you will see Shahid draping a cloth over Aishwarya’s head in one of the shots.

‘Shano Shano’ – Yuvvraaj
With a mix of full on Bolly dance with some grand sets and colorful costumes and then some flashes of really cool break dancing and hip hop, this song set in a casino and night club features stars Salman Khan and Zayed Khan along with Amrit Maghera moving to the thumping beat.

‘Halo Halo’ – I See You
The choreographer once again amazes with his vision and creativity for the backdrops for his videos. All the dancers are brilliant in the modern choreography. The song features the “is she there or not?” (since we don’t want to give the plot) Vipasha Agarwal and Arjun Rampal who is well…hot and wonderful in the party song!

‘Subah Subah’ – I See You
One of my favorite songs, this video has a surprise special appearance by Shah Rukh Khan and could he look any hotter just leaning up against that post! The opening credits to the movie, we see the ever gorgeous Arjun Rampal walking the streets of London and he encounters many different people from all walks of life in fun vignettes. Be sure to watch out for the glimpse of Hrithik Roshan who even just doing a small change up step looks cool! One of Shiamak’s simpler videos it still is innovative and expresses the feeling of the lyrics and the song perfectly.

‘Eena Meena Maina Mo’ – Zokkomon
Set in a theater warehouse, Manjari Fadnis as Kittu Didi and Darsheel Safary have fun in the sets and costumes! We actually see Manjari in 14 different looks and scenes. Love the concept and execution of this sequence and actually would have liked to see more of each look!

My Wish Comes True – Kisna
A beautiful song with music by A.R Rahman, the video features Vivek Oberoi and Antonio Bernard. Shiamak paints a exquisite picture with the lyrical choreography performed brilliantly in perfect precision by the dancers. Another unique idea that transposed outstandingly on the screen and is one of his finest.

‘Fanny Re’ – Finding Fanny
Finding Fanny is quirky and the dances for the song videos had to be as well. For ‘Fanny Re’, Shiamak wanted to bring out each character’s personality and says he had a blast doing it. Apparently so did the cast because they full committed to the let’s say interesting (in a good way) steps! This video must be experienced to see what we mean!

‘Shake Your Bootiya’ – Finding Fanny
Unique and totally unexpected this concept was born in the minds of director Homi Adajani and Shiamak. About the song, Shiamak said he thought it would be a highlight of the film, “The music is very catchy and I had the best time choreographing it. The concept of the song is very different and the audience will love it! It’s an out-and-out fun song and people will be hooked on to the signature step!” All we can say is we have to agree!

We also have a special bonus track!

Radhika Rao & Vinay Sapru with Shiamak Davar
More of an MTV style music video, this was directed by Radhika Rao & Vinay Sapru and features Shiamak showing off his moves! There is an odd thing with a crow in a scarf and a fedora but it is very conceptual and it works. Interspersed we see scenes from 1998’s Jhoot Bole Kauwa Kaate, which stars Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Amrish Puri, Reema Lagoo, and Anupam Kher. Shiamak got the moves that is for sure!

From all of us at BollySpice, we wish him a very Happy Birthday! May it be a year filled with more incredible work and many blessings! We can’t wait to see what dances he amazes us with next!
