Although Sonam Kapoor debuted on the same day as Deepika Padukone and has been forced to endure a media-made war with her fellow colleague, the two are poles apart when it comes to films. We make this statement based on the fact that while Deepika has signed 3-5 projects after her debut, Sonam has gone to the opposite extreme and only has Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Dilli 6 in the works.

On June 9th, she turns 23 and recently chatted to Mumbai Mirror about her upcoming films and rumoured relationships. The following are highlights from the interview.

Unfortunately, the actress says she doesn’t have anything grand planned for her birthday. She states, “Last year, on my birthday I was shooting for Saawariya. And this time I’m shooting for Dilli 6.”

Ever since the release of Saawariya, Sonam suddenly disappeared unlike co-star Ranbir Kapoor who is all over the place. Reason: Dilli 6 (co-starring Abhishek Bachchan). The actress stated in earlier interviews that she decided to focus on her work and by no means meant to run away from the media. In the process, her name has gotten attached to many projects including Aditya Chopra‘s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. How did all the rumours start? “Adi wanted to meet, so we met. He never mentioned Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Since I wasn’t denying or accepting that I have been offered that role, everyone jumped to their own conclusions,” she clears the rumours. Too bad…it would be nice seeing her share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan!

Things only seem to be getting better for Sonam, who is paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan in her next film. What’s next? Sonam claims she hasn’t signed anything new yet, but is clearly willing to chat about her co-star with whom it seems she had a ball! “It was different during Saawariya as my relationship with Ranbir was casual as we are childhood friends. However, with Abhishek, I was a thorough professional. He made suggestions gently and if he wanted to make a point, he said it as a joke to avoid any offense. We are on the same wave length and we both love junk food. He would keep digging into my cookies and then blame me for his weight gain,” she explains. She is all praise for his wife Aishwarya Rai as well and admits, “I was bowled over by both Abhishek and Aishwarya. Aishwarya is so beautiful, it’s scary. No one has the right to be so lovely.” Quite a statement! Later on, the actress says that she thinks Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya are the most beautiful in the industry.

For most, it would seem weird to see your father romancing women your age. For Sonam, this is a reality! She says, “If I can see him romancing my chachi [Sridevi], what’s the big deal about these girls? After all, it’s just acting. The youngest heroine he’s acted with is Katrina and she’s only two years older than me.”

Finally to the subject everyone is waiting for–Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Was there ever something brewing between Ranbir and Sonam? What does she think now that he’s with Deepika? She calmly states, “What about us? Let’s get one thing clear. I was never seeing Ranbir. I’m happy for him. Deepika seems to be a really nice girl.” As for co-starring with him again, the actress claims that they haven’t got any offers together but she would love to work with him again.

Perhaps the greatest line of the interview is when Sonam is asked where all her ad’s are since Ranbir has his ad’s all over the place. After replying that they will be up in due course, she says, “Main lambi race ki ghodi hoon.” Let’s hope Sonam will race ahead in the future!

For now, Bollyspice wishes her a very happy birthday and best wishes in her personal and professional life. We’re certainly watching out for Dilli 6.
