Amrita Rao’s next is a comedic costume drama

Amrita Rao is one of Bollywood’s up and coming actresses, who is known for her girl next door image; think Ishq Vishk, think Vivaah. However, she is ready to stretch her wings by taking on some new roles. Her next film has her playing a small town girl but her character in Welcome To Sajjanpur is a new avatar for the young actress.

The film is directed by one of the greats, Shyam Benegal and co-stars Shreyas Talpade. About her role in the comedy Amrita told TOI, “This is the first time I am playing such a rustic character. My character, Kamla, is a potter and is uneducated. It is a costume drama and we also had to adapt to the Bagilkhandi accent. I’m very excited about the film.”

Adding, “Yes, I have played a small town girl in Vivaah. But I have never played a total uneducated gaonwali, which I play in this film. It was quite fascinating.”
