Hello, my lovelies. We are a half of the way through the year and it is time to cast a look at what the year has to offer in film releases so you can all mark up your diaries with release dates. So here is a snapshot of what the rest of 2010 has to offer.

Raajneeti

Starring – Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Rampal, Naseruddin Shah

Release Date – 4 June 2010

Shot in Bhopal, Raajneeti is a film that is hugely influenced by the epic story from the Indian religious history the “Mahabharat”. Set against a background of politics, the films characters are said to go through similar dilemmas and experiences mentioned in the epic. Releasing in the beginning of June and with promos already airing on the small screen, Raajneeti looks to be a promising release this year.

Raavan

Starring – Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Govinda, Priyamani, Ravi Kishan, Nikhil Dwivedi

Release Date – 18th June 2010

Shooting began in the Southern part of India at the end of October 2008. Reportedly a film that is a modern day version and a loose adaptation of the great Indian epic Ramayana which tells the story of Rama, whose wife Sita is abducted by the demon Ravana. It is said that Raavan will have a new twist on the Ramayana. The film will also be dubbed into Telugu and other regional languages.

Said to feature choreography by Astad Deboo, Raavan includes Dravidian martial art Kalarippayattu, and a tandav dance between Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan with Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee as the designing force behind Aishwarya Rai’s costumes. This film is definitely one to watch this year.

Milenge Milenge

Starring – Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Aarti Chhabria, Delnaaz Paul, Satish Shah

Release Date – 25 June 2010

A film which seems to be inspired by the 2001 romantic comedy Serendipity, Milenge Milenge stars Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor in their fifth film together after Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 release Jab We Met. Milenge Milenge was expected to hit screens on 23 December 2005 but due to some financial and casting problems, it failed to do so. News on the grapevine now indicates that all that now needs to be completed is the promotional video and the film is ready to be marketed in time for its June release.

I Hate Luv Storys

Starring – Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Sameer Dattani

This is definitely one to look forward to this summer. I Hate Luv Storys sees Punit Malhotra, nephew of designer Manish Malhotra, make his debut as a director. Having earlier worked as an assistant director to Johar, Malhotra’s first venture sees him casting Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor in a love triangle. Shot in Mumbai, Pune, Coimbatore, Panvel and New Zealand, I Hate Luv Storys introduces another new jodi to our screens. Sounds very promising….

It’s My Life

Release Date – 23 July 2010

A remake of Telugu film Bommarillu and Tamil film Santosh Subramaniam, where Genelia D’Souza played the lead female role in both versions, It’s My Life sees Harman Baweja as the son of an over-protective business man who makes every decision for his son. A love story, the film focuses on Baweja’s realization that he has to stand on his own to succeed in love.

Action Replay

Starring – Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Neha Dhupia, Randhir Kapoor

Director – Vipul Shah
Producer – Vipul Shah
Music – Pritam
Release Date – August 2010

This film awaited with much anticipation as it brings together Kumar and Rai for the first time after their 2004 release Khakhee. Action Replay is based on a 1994 Gujarati Indian play of the same name about time travel tale based on Mumbai in the fifties. With Nitin Desai constructing the set design over six acres of land in his Karjat studio, rumours are the set itself is awe-inspiring with a complete replication of the time period including roads, cars and houses.

Dabangg

Starring – Salman Khan, Sayam Hussain, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood, Mahie Gill,

Release Date – 10th September 2010

Dabangg sees a couple of debuts. Arbaaz Khan launches Arbaaz Khan Productions and makes his debut as a producer. It also sees Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter Sonakshi Sinha making her first appearance. Set in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Dabangg sees Salman Khan return to the role of a cop. A corrupt police officer but a police officer nonetheless. A film that is supposed to highlight the flaws and loopholes in the system, Dabangg is shaping up to be one action packed drama.

Anjaana Anjaani

Starring – Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Zayed Khan, Anupam Kher

Director – Siddharth Anand
Producer – Sajid Nadiadwala
Music – Vishal-Shekhar
Release Date – 1 October 2010

Anjaana Anjaani is Siddharth Anand’s forth release and it sees another new pairing with Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Teaming up with the music directors from his previous three films, the project looks promising. Breaking away from the YashRaj Banner, Anand has spent time shooting in San Francisco followed by shooting in Los Angeles, New York and Bangkok. With insiders commenting that the new pair’s chemistry sizzles on screen, this romantic comedy is one to look out for this autumn.

Guzaarish

Starring – Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan

It has been three years since Bhansali’s Saawariya released, and this year Bhansali will return with Guzaarish. It is a love story of a married nurse (Aishwarya Rai) and a paraplegic, wheelchair bound patient (Hrithik Roshan), who suffers from motor and sensory function impairments of the lower limbs. With reports that both actors learnt Portuguese for this film and rumours that both Hrithik and Aishwarya will sing a song for the movie together where song recording will be done by Bhansali himself, this is one of the years most eagerly anticipated films. Definitely one event to place in the diaries, folks.

Stepmom Remake

Release Date – 3rd December 2010

Assistant director to Karan Johar Love You Maa sees Siddarth Malhotra cast Kareena and Kajol together again for the first time since K3G. Malhotra’s ‘Love You Maa’ or one of the other title still under consideration, dubbed the desi version of the Susan Sarandon-Julia Robert’s tearjerker, ‘Stepmom’ sees Karan Johar wrap up the 2010 with another serious, sentimental flick.

With the film now in post production all that waits to be heard is confirmation of release date and the final title. Better start stocking up on the tissues folks…this film sounds like we are going to need them…

Tees Maar Khan

Starring – Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Akshay Khanna

Director – Farah Khan

Music – Vishal-Shekhar
Release Date – 24 December 2010

Tees Maar Khan is Farah Khan’s third offering to the film audience as a director. It’s a story about two con men who are good friends until they both fall in love with the same woman (Katrina Kaif). All hell breaks loose when both friends ask Kaif out and she rejects both. The friends decide that they will do anything to get her, even kill each other. This year’s Christmas release looks to be shaping up to one comedic roller coaster. I guess it waits to be seen if Tees Maar Khan emulates the success of its predecessor (3 Idiots). Here is wishing it all the best.
