The soundtrack to Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is all ready zooming up the charts and the title song ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ is one of the biggest hits on the album. On the album, Shankar Mahadevan sings the track for a song featuring none other than Amitabh Bachchan. It looks to be one of the highlights of the film with Bachchan sporting an all-new look.

But this rendition will be a surprise to the original singer of the song Daler Mehendi. Even last week he was very excited about the song and then he learned of the change to Mahadevan. Mahadevan is one of the music directors for the film along with his partners Ehsaan and Loy.

Ehsaan confirmed the change and said that, “Actually Mr Bachchan asked for the change as he did not want to break the series of hit he has got with Shankar as the singer in the form of chartbusters like Kajra Re (Bunty Aur Babli) and Rock and Roll (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna).” Though at first Bachchan was not convinced about the song ‘Kajra Re’ and wanted a few changes made. But in the end after hearing it a few times he agreed and the rest as they say is history!

This change of singer is a very surprising turn of events because not only is Mehendi’s style and voice perfect for the Punjabi flavored track but also that he and Bachchan had a good working relationship. In fact Mehendi recollected that, “When in 1997 Mr Bachchan called me and said ‘Dalerji I would love to work with you, will you work with me?’ I was extremely happy.” That same year, Mehendi and Bachchan even shared the screen in the film Mrityudaata for the song ‘Na Na Na Re’.

It will be very interesting to hear what Mehendi has to say about all this.
