Now in its tenth year and firmly established on the international fashion calendar, the Lakme Fashion Week kicked off in Mumbai with mother-and-daughter designers Neeta and Nishka Lulla’s collection inspired by fairies, pixies and elves. “I felt 10-years younger and lighter walking the ramp for Nishka in her collection, which is themed around innocence,” explained Bollywood’s Dia Mirza who was one of the showstoppers in a strapless layered white dress. Sameera Reddy also impressed in a white dhoti-styled sari with an embellished choti.

An exciting week lies ahead for Bolly fashionistas – Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif will be walking the plank to launch Salman’s new Being Human range of clothing and many more stars will be making surprise appearances as the week unfolds. Meanwhile, Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra’s highly successful merging of fashion and drama that he unveiled at the Kolkata Fashion Week will now be shown in Mumbai. “I was so amazed with the overwhelming response I received for my collection in Kolkata, that I thought ‘oh, my own city will not see this collection’,” he said, “That’s why I decided to showcase it here. The theme for the collection is to depict a woman who has walked out of her wedding, as she is finally decisive about what she wants in life.”

Dia Mirza’s career, meanwhile, appears to be expanding on all fronts. As well as being a surprise hit as a sexy tough vixen in Acid Factory, which is sure to attract more roles, she is currently adorning the front cover of Verve magazine on newstands across India and the Gulf and in addition is rumoured to have a new love in her life.
