Madhuri Dixit, once again, is considering a return to Hindi cinema. She is currently receiving offers to star in several films, but her age is a difficult one to cast. Hindi films in general have not been kind to the middle-aged woman-past heroine, but not yet aunty. Consider a film like Dil Chahta Hai where the single, middle-aged woman dies of liver failure. This is not a hopeful picture for the aging stars.

Madhuri says she has not found the perfect role yet and told TOI, “I got many film offers, but nothing that’s really excited me. Anil (Kapoor) approached me for a film based on Freaky Friday, but the role didn’t appeal to me. It’s not about playing mother, it’s about my role in a film.”

It seems her fans are on her side arguing that Madhuri is no aunty. When asked what role they wish her to play she responds: “I think they want to see me with Shah Rukh or Aamir.” Many fans would gladly see her as a heroine again.

While her 2007 film Aaja Nachle received mixed reviews leaning toward negative, the dancing queen stands by her choices in film. And Madhuri’s opinion, however is the only one that matters in the end. She will choose the film based on the role that speaks to her most. If that happens to be mother, then so be it. All we can say is we can’t wait to see her on the silver screen again!
