French Government to Honor Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan is going to be awarded the prestigious ‘Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters’ by the French Government for his work in the Indian film industry. The title is given to people whose work in the arts has influenced not only their own country but other countries as well.

Jerome Bonnafont (French Ambassador in India) will bestow SRK with the title at a ceremony on January 27th. The ceremony will be held at the First Rendezvous with French cinema, a four-day festival showcasing French cinema. The festivals primary purpose is to introduce French films to India. There will be screenings held of seven films that are set to release commercially in multiplexes in India.

Mohamed Bendjebbour, the Audiovisual Attache – Head of the French Film and TV office, French Embassy in India, said, “The title is being conferred to recognize the successful work done by Khan in 15-year career span and his contribution to Indian cinema – as an artiste and entrepreneur.”

Adding, “We have the tradition of honouring great film personalities in India. Our government believes that Indian film industry is today among the best in the world in terms of quality.”
