Actor Salman Khan celebrates his 49th birthday today. Ever since the flamboyant ‘bad boy’ of Hindi Cinema made his debut in 1988 with the film Biwi Ho To Aisi, he has always maintained a good balance between his work as a entertainer and his work as a humanitarian.
Khan is one of the biggest stars in the Hindi film industry. After his debut he impressed with his roles in films like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Saajan, Karan Arjun, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Phir Milenge, Tere Naam and Khamoshi. While he had a loverboy image in the nineties, he completely transformed into an action hero in recent years.
Trendsetter
Khan increasingly appeared as the larger-than-life hero who single-handedly saved the world from all political games, while he beats up an army of bad guys on his own.
The films he did contained bizarre action sequences we had only known from and seen in South-Indian Cinema. Khan recognized the potential and decided to bring that style to Bollywood with Wanted and with this started the trend of remakes of Tamil and Telugu films. Soon he was seen in movies such as Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard.
The idea was a success and we quickly saw actors like Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore, Boss) and Ajay Devgn (Son of Sardaar, Action Jackson) follow suit.
Being Human
In 2007, Khan began the Being Human Foundation. The actor invested lots of his attention, time and money for philanthropic purposes. The foundation helps kids in need and now also focuses on medical care and education for children.
To raise more money to achieve their goals and create awareness, the foundation started with setting up your own clothing label and a production company, Salman Khan Being Human Productions. This company produced the National Award winning film Chillar Party and the Canadian film Dr. Cabbie.
The actor knows how important his name and branding is and mentioned this in his interview with Karan Johar on the talkshow Koffee with Karan.
The 49-year-old superstar said he is willing to make different choices in his life, both in his career and as a humanitarian. “I do not want to be that one movie star who has many fans, but is forgotten after he dies.” He added that he wanted to help others, so that he will be remembered forever.
The superstar celebrated his 49th birthday with his family and friends at his farmhouse in Panvel who gifted him an innovative birthday cake with strawberries.
His colleagues took to Twitter and wished the star on his birthday.
Preity Zinta tweeted, “Happy Birthday Salman. Wishing you loads of love, success, sexiness, good health and blockbusters now and always… Muaah!”
‘Kick’ co-star Jacqueline Fernandez wrote, “And it’s the happiest day of all!! @BeingSalmanKhan mwaaahhhhhh #HappyBirthdaySalmanKhan.”
Sonakshi Sinha, who was launched by Salman in ‘Dabangg’, feels the actor is the best. “Happy birthday to @BeingSalmanKhan, Who has gone 10 steps beyond the original performance of ‘o o jaane jaana’ last night. U the best! (sic)”
Bipasha tweeted, “Happy Birthday to the one n only @BeingSalmanKhan! Wish you extreme love peace happiness! Stay blessed forever. Hugs! (sic).”
Khan is currently working on the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Both films will release in 2015.

Diandra Soares and Minnisha Lamba, the evicted participants of TV show Bigg Boss 8 hosted by Salman Khan were also spotted at his party.
