Karan Johar is not only a master director but he is also proving that he can find talent in new directors for his production company Dharma Productions. He showed that with Dostana‘s Tarun Mansukhani and is set to prove it once again with Ayan Mukherjee. Ayan’s film Wake Up Sid is one of the upcoming films that everybody is talking about and cannot wait to see. Not only because of the youthful flavor of the promos and music but even more for the cast. At first, the jodi of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma made some scratch their heads but now that everyone sees them together, they can’t help but look forward to seeing the two fine actors fall in love on screen.

Karan told journalist Joginder Tuteja that Ranbir was the only one that Ayan wanted to play Sid, “Yes, Ranbir was always the first choice of Ayan. Once Ayan conveyed this to me, I too was quite happy and gave him a go ahead.”

He added, “Another reason for being ecstatic with Ranbir on board is the fact that I am really very fond of Chintu uncle and Neetu aunty. So I just called Ranbir up and he was on board; it was as simple as that.”

He has full confidence in the casting of Konkona as Ranbir’s love interest and feels she is the only one who could bring all the character needed, “The film was written in such a manner that the woman out there shouldn’t have belonged to the conventional prototype leading lady characterization that one often sees. There had to be an altogether different dynamics that were much required. There are so many different layers and nuances that the character of Ayesha has. Frankly, I don’t know of many actresses who would have brought on screen the kind of traits that Ayesha possesses.”

He goes on to say that it is Konkona’s uniqueness that made her perfect for the role, “I thought that if we cast the film in a conventional manner, then it won’t have that special ‘X’ factor which was so much required for Sid’s world. Konkona is unusual and quite unconventional and this is what makes her love story with Ranbir real and honest.”
