For Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra , surprising everyone is not a new thing. While he has plans for a casting coup with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in a film based on the world of classical music titled Bhairavi, it seems the director has dropped all plans of casting Akshay Kumar in his other biopic film Run Milkha Run.

Based on the real life Indian athlete, Milkha Singh, the Rang De Basanti director was planning to capture him on film as a biopic in which the athlete himself suggested Akshay Kumar, but has since changed plans. The reason? “We’re cutting down production costs for the bio-pic by almost half by simply doing away with expenditure that was so far considered compulsory but is actually quite expendable. If you look at the big films that failed in 2010, they did not fail. Their budgets failed them. We won’t make the mistake of optimizing the budget in Run Milka Run.” he said when speaking to the Mumbai Mirror.

As B-town recovers from many A list actors’ films disappearing into the darkness in 2010, Rakeysh maintains that many of them could have and are capable of the transformation for a character but insists “it was always a newcomer or a relative newcomer” that he wanted.
