‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Honored with 4 Golden Globes

Slumdog Millionaire won in every category in which it was nominated in at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. The film won Best Screenplay, Best Soundtrack, Best Director and the coveted prized of the evening, Best Film!

Simon Beaufoy won for his script for the film, and he said in his thank you speech that director Danny Boyle “made his script fly”.

A R Rahman was honored for his amazing soundtrack and he thanked the “billion people in India.” This is the first time an Indian composer has taken home a Golden Globe!

Director Danny Boyle was ecstatic, as were stars Anil Kapoor, Freida Pinto and Dev Patel, when he won for Best Director. He thanked the amazing crew in India as well as the actors. “Golden Globes, or the GGs as we very affectionately refer to them – your mad, pulsating affection for our film is much appreciated. Really, deeply appreciated,” he said in his acceptance speech.

Shah Rukh Khan, along with Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto, presented the clip for the film. Shah Rukh, making a joke, said he would do a Bollywood hip thrust, but they might make him get off the stage, also thanked the film fraternity for being accepting of the Hindi film Industry.

In the final coup of the evening Slumdog Millionaire won the Golden Globe for Best Film, and Dev Patel (with tears in his eyes), Anil Kapoor, Freida Pinto, Danny Boyle, and the producer were all on stage to get the trophy!

Congratulations to the cast and crew for the well deserved honors!

Next up is the Oscar nominations, and with this and the win of five awards at the recent Critics Choice Awards it looks like more awards may be store for this fabulous film!
