This September, one of the films we have our eye on is the must-see action drama Akira, starring Sonakshi Sinha.

A tale of rebellion, revenge and retribution, Akira (which translates to ‘Graceful Strength’ in Sanskrit) is a gripping action drama about a college girl Akira (Sonakshi Sinha) whose life spirals out of control when she becomes unwittingly involved in a crime. Now with a gang of corrupt police officers giving her the chase, and with no one to turn to, Akira will have to find in herself the courage and the power to stand up and face her enemies.

It is said, that when a deep injury is done to us, we can never recover until we forgive. With twists and turns, pouring emotions and edge-of-the-seat action, will this final battle between Akira and the law breakers end in finding Akira Justice?

The film sees Sonakshi Sinha in a brand new full on action role. This certainly is a new avatar from her characters in Dabangg or Lootera. Sonakshi will be seen performing hand to hand combat amongst other stunts and we hear she packs in more punches than you can possibly handle in Akira.

In a recent interview for her upcoming film Akira, which releases in cinemas on 2nd September, actress Sonakshi Sinha mentioned that this is a great time to be a woman in Indian cinema. According to her, not only are women getting to play good characters, but the audience too, has become more accepting of these roles.

Akira is co-written, produced and directed by AR Murugadoss who’s directorial credentials include blockbusters like Ghajini and Holiday.

Sonakshi Sinha is joined by the critically acclaimed actress Konkana Sen Sharma and Bollywood’s maverick filmmaker Anurag Kayshap as the antagonist in the film. Plus, to bring the scenes to life musically is the eminent musical duo Vishal–Shekhar.

Akira releases worldwide on 2 September 2016 through Fox Star Studios.
