In an effort to launch his daughter Sonam into the Bollywood ‘Big League’, Anil Kapoor has announced that he will be producing a version of Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’ for her to star in. The question is, who will be Mr. Knightly? This will in fact be the second Bollywood musical of a Jane Austen novel, following the international success of Bride and Prejudice, which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Economics graduate Sonam made her debut in the less than successful Saawariya, although her performance was well received and she won the Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow Award. Early next year, she will be seen in Dilli 6.

Sonam is a social activist and has strong views on what India should be doing for its people: “Today, I would hope that awareness in this country increases and that can only be done by educating our dominantly youthful nation,” she explains, “Illiteracy is the reason why any nation suffers and my wish would be for a literate nation. Better infrastructure and better roads is also something I would like to have for my country.”
