He is known for making audiences laugh and equally making them cry. He is known for creating magic onscreen with his opulently grand locales and magnificent sets. And to top it all off, he is known for casting the Baadshah of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan in almost every film of his. Yet despite all this, director Karan Johar doesn’t feel this was enough to make his films complete!

At a recent press event for the upcoming release of Lunchbox, Karan reported that he would have preferred it if many of his previously films were made somewhat differently! From his first film release in 1998 to his most recent in 2012 Karan said, ‘when I see Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, now I feel what a ridiculous story, when I see Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, I think it is 35 minutes too long, with Kal Ho Naa Ho, I wish I had changed the end…, Student of the Year, I wish it had more of emotional intensity. So, every film is a new mistake.’

Although Karan has voiced his opinions about his previous directorial ventures, there is nothing stopping him from facing the challenges of making a new film. Karan is believed to direct his next film during the course of next year, however, at this early stage he has not spoke about what the audiences can expect.

It will, of course, be interesting to see whether his next release will be made using those classic ingredients’, or perhaps he is keen to give his audiences something new? Either way, films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho have equally made their mark in Bollywood and will live on as classic favourites!
