The story will be centered around a family of Sikh immigrants who try to deal with the cultural differences that come with living in a foreign country. It will also focus on their adaption to a new society as well as ice-hockey, the national (winter) sport of Canada.

Break Away will be directed by Robert Lieberman and written by Vinay Virmani, who also happens to be the lead in the film. The cast will also include Canadian-based comedian, Russell Peters.

Said to be an English-Punjabi film, other actors who may be signed for the project include 1000 BC actress, Camilla Belle and Rob Lowe of TV series Brothers & Sisters fame.
