Disney Releasing Their Trio of Indian Films On Several Platforms for North America

BURBANK, CA — June 29, 2011 – The Walt Disney Studios is proud to announce the North American release of three films from India, Do Dooni Chaar, Once Upon A Warrior and Zokkomon. On July 26th, the movies will be released simultaneously on DVD, video-on-demand, and digital download and will be featured on iTunes. Fans of Indian cinema living in every part of the US and Canada will now have more choices than ever before to see these films in the format they enjoy best.

These three films will be the first Indian films ever to be released in North America on DVD, video-on-demand, and on digital download platforms all on the same day. Not only can you buy your copy on DVD to keep from stores, they will also be available online on Amazon.com, Disney and other sites for order. If you can’t wait, you can watch Do Dooni Chaar, Once Upon A Warrior and Zokkomon on demand on your television with, as they say in their ads, a “click of a button”. A ton of providers are offering the films on VOD (video on demand) including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Verizon, AT&T, DirecTV, InDemand, TVN, Charter, Playstation, and Xbox. For those who use Apple TV and iTunes, Netflix and other digital downloads, don’t fret, they will be available that same day too.

Disney was involved in production of each film, which will be released in their local language and subtitled in English. The two Hindi films star some of the biggest names including Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Darsheel Safary and Anupam Kher. Also being released is Disney’s first Telugu film which featured Siddharth and Shruti Haasan.

It not only gives fans a chance to once again experience the magic of these films but introduces them to a much wider audience!

Here is a bit about each film:

Do Dooni Chaar – Hindi
When released Do Dooni Chaar garnered rave reviews, with BollySpice joining in the praise especially the return of the jodi of Neetu and Rishi. The film is a heart-warming comedy about the dreams and challenges of a middle-class family. They take a chaotic journey to fulfill their dream of owning a car and discover the true meaning of family along the way.  The film was written and directed by Habib Faisal (co-writer of Salaam Namaste) and features Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Aditi Vasudev, Archit Krishna, Akhilendra Mishra, Natasha Rastogi, Supriya Shukla, Mohit Chaddha and Avtar Sahni. It won India’s prestigious National Award for Best Hindi Film of the Year as well as the Best Actor Award from the 2011 New York Indian Film Festival for Rishi Kapoor.

Zokkomon
 -Hindi
Zokkomon is a thrilling Hindi action adventure film about an ordinary boy who overcomes extraordinary challenges to become a magical hero.  The film had its World Premiere at the Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles and a limited theatrical release.  Featuring well-known Indian stars Darsheel Safary and Anupam Kher (Bend it Like Beckham) the film features music by India’s most popular trio, Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

Once Upon A Warrior – Telugu
As the first ever Disney Telugu fantasy adventure, Once Upon A Warrior is about a swashbuckling warrior on an epic quest to save a mystical young girl from a wicked Queen in the ultimate battle between good and evil.  In the tradition of Pirates of the Caribbean and Prince of Persia, the film features an all-star cast including Siddharth, Shruti Haasan and Lakshmi Manchu. The background score is from Salim-Sulaiman and the Music Directors are Koti, Mickey J. Mayer,  Salim-Sulaiman and M.M. Keeravani.  The film is produced by Prasad Devinini, Prakash Kovelamudi and Written & Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi.  K. Raghavendra Rao who has over 100 Telugu films among his credits, is also a producer.
