He’s been dubbed the new “serial kisser” in Bollywood. Ranveer Singh is playing the protagonist in Yash Raj Films’ next release, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, and his character is a Casanova and quite a professional one at that, so it’s no wonder that the reputation has rubbed off on him a little too. This “serial kisser” tag came about after the one-film-old actor was arguably over-courteous with female fans during the music launch of Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl. It is thought he was particularly adhering to requests for kisses from his clearly increasing female fanbase.
Recently, during the final week of the popular Amitabh Bachchan hosted gameshow Kaun Banega Crorepati, Ranveer (with co-star Anushka Sharma in tow) wowed the audiences and Bachchan sahib himself by reciting the “mere paas Maa hai” dialogue from Bachchan’s yesteryear film, Deewaar. His charms, it seems, don’t just stop at the women. Ranveer also requested for “Jhumma Chumma” to be played as he danced around the hot-seat area enthusiastically singing his heart out to the song and impersonating the hugely well-known dance moves of the song originally re-enacted on screen by Big B.
If you’re thinking Ranveer might just turn out to be a one-hit-wonder, then you would be very mistaken. In a recent interview, he has reportedly said that he is in the process of writing a script. He has revealed that his time as a copywriter has been of great help when writing it and he also divulged that it would be a dark comedy. Many may not know that before becoming a newcomer with YRF, Ranveer had assisted a few directors. Although he is not keen on pursuing direction any time soon, it is safe to say that this young talent is here to stay, whether it is behind the screen or in front.
Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl will bring together the cast of Band Baaja Baraat, including with a few more additions. From the first promos it is evident that the music is a sure-fire hit with the audiences and no doubt it is helping with the popularity of the movie itself. Ranveer very proudly branded it a “rom-con” (a romantic con) and labelled the character he plays as a “smooth operator”.
