English Vinglish gets a standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival

English Vinglish, starring the beautiful Sri Devi and produced by Eros International and R. Balki, received a tremendous response at this year’s prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. The film, directed by Gauri Shinde, premiered to a sold out crowd at the Roy Thompson Hall at Toronto on September 14th 2012.

The global audience gave English Vinglish a 10 minute standing ovation after the screening was over. Not only that, press from all over the globe have given very positive reviews to the film. The film has been praised for its unique story that everyone can connect too. Not your classic Bollywood filmi film, English Vinglish is being called a defining film in the changing face of Indian cinema.

Of course, Sridevi, who has made her comeback to films after 15 years, has gotten rave reviews for her performance. Not just India but the global audience is in awe of Sridevi. Sridevi has said she completely relates to the character of the film English Vinglish as the character’s struggle with the language resonates with her personal struggle with the language, ‘As a mother and as a human being, I could really relate to the character. I’ve done several languages [in films] without knowing the language: Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.’

After the brilliant buzz English Vinglish has created in Toronto, the countdown for the release of the film in India on October 5th has just got more exciting!
