Producing Partners, FirstTake Entertainment and Caramel Films announced today that principal photography of Dr. CABBIE began on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. The film is presented by Salman Khan Being Human [SKBH] Productions. It will be directed by one of Canada’s most acclaimed Directors’, Jean-Francois Poulliot (La Grande Seduction). The principal cast includes Vinay Virmani (Breakaway), Adrianne Palicki (GI JOE), Kunal Nayyar (Big Bang Theory), Lillete Dubey (Monsoon Wedding), Mircea Monroe (Change Up), Rizwan Manji (Outsourced), Chris Diamantopoulos (The Three Stooges) and will also launch newcomer Isabelle.
Dr. CABBIE: An unemployed doctor turned cab driver becomes a local hero when he converts his taxi into a mobile clinic. Dr. CABBIE is the heart warming journey of a young Indian Doctor who immigrates to Canada with the selfless ambition of healing others while beginning a new life in the land of opportunity. Dr. CABBIE disovers his true purpose and true love when he embarks upon this journey of a doctor turned cabbie.
The film will be presented by SKBH Productions, the production company owned by the Indian film industry’s most renowned and recognizable star, Salman Khan. “Dr. CABBIE is the story of an Indian immigrant and it has an inherent universal appeal,” said Salman Khan speaking about the film.
Director Jean-Francois Pouliot says, “Dr. CABBIE is a timeless story that audiences will identify with, blending social issues and the journey to find one’s place in the world”. He adds, “We are thrilled to have such a talented cast who will tell this humorous and heart warming story.”
Dr. CABBIE has been made possible by funding from Telefilm Canada, SODEC and Harold Greenberg Fund. The film will distributed in Canada by Entertainment One. EROS International will distirbute Dr. CABBIE in the Indian Sub-Continent. EROS is the leader of South Asian films as well as the most dominant media and entertainment company in the Indian Film Industry with a global reach. Dr. CABBIE is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2013.
