Bollywood goddess Madhuri Dixit was once told early in her career that she would never succeed within the film industry. At a recent event, Madhuri stated the following to the Indian media and how she was determined to prove her critics wrong. “Being a woman you always go through something or the other. When I made my debut in Bollywood, many people told me I can’t do, it’s not a good place, I can’t make my position in this industry. But that time I had faith in myself and worked and proved everyone what can I do.”

Making her film debut in Abodh (1984), Madhuri eventually secured the stardom she sought to achieve with the blockbuster hit Tezaab (1988), where she performed opposite 80s superstar Anil Kapoor. Subsequently, she has starred in key Bollywood films like Dil (1990), Beta (1992), Khal Nayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). “When you push yourself you rise up to the challenge and you realize your strength. When adversity comes that’s when one stands for themselves,” added the 46 year old actress.

Madhuri was recently seen in a special appearance in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani for the song ‘Ghagra,’ where she danced opposite Ranbir Kapoor. She will next be seen in Soumik Sen’s Gulab Gang, where she will share screen space for the first time with Juhi Chawla.
