The Shakespeare classic ‘The Tempest’ was recently presented in the most dynamic and enchanting way by Helen O’Grady International-India at NCPA in the form of dance and pantomime! Bollyspice was right there to watch this lovely event and bring it to you.

The Tempest is one of the most popular plays written by the infamous William Shakespeare. As Helen O’Grady describes this tale,” On a remote island, Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. There, his machinations bring about the revelation of Antonio’s lowly nature, the redemption of the king, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son, Ferdinand.”

The Tempest was presented by a group of young actors and dancers, who cast a spell on everyone with their unique way of telling this lovely story. The costumes, lights, and production value, it is important for a pantomime to be able to keep its audience hooked on to it through its form of expression, which this one did. The music, the strong expressions and the dance were so beautifully constructed that you could feel every emotion which you may not experience in a mainstream play with dialogues. Every little detail, every feeling, every emotion was presented whole heartedly. The whole experience of watching such a popular tale in such a different way was stunning.

The Tempest had its opening show on 17th August at St. Andrews Auditorium in Bandra. After its tremendous success, the second show was on 14th September at NCPA theatre. This pantomime has been directed by Mr. K Paintal and choreographed by Mr. Atul Narang. It was conceived and adapted by Mrs. Arpita Mittal, the C.E.O of Helen O’Grady International-India. Helen O’Grady International is the world’s largest after-school drama programme and is globally spread in over 25 countries.
