Amitabh Bachchan to attend Gandhi statue unveiling in London

Bollywood legend Mr Amitabh Bachchan has been invited to give a speech during the unveiling of a statue of Indian nationalist Mahatma Gandhi in London. Mr Bachchan was invited by Downing Street to attend the official ceremony on Saturday at Parliament Square where the statue of the much revered freedom rights leader will be revealed. Other guests in attendance will be UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Indian Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley and Gandhi’s grandson and Governor of West Bengal Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi.

The statue will mark 100 years since Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa when he officially began India’s campaign for freedom against British colonial rule. Gates to the ceremony will open on Saturday at 9:15 at Parliament Square with the ceremony commencing at 10:00. There will be music taking place also, as well as speeches from Mr Bachchan and Shri Gandhi.
