Forbes, a magazine about financial and business news has released its Forbes Star Currency list, which is a list of Hollywood’s most bankable actors. The list ranks actors as the star most likely to make a film a hit aka bankabiltiy and the top spot was awarded to Will Smith. What makes this list different was that it did not include only Hollywood stars, six of our Bollywood stars have made the grade!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the highest ranked Indian coming in at 387th. Also on the list was Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Irrfan Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Aamir came at 540th, with SRK at 735th, Salman was number 753 followed by Irrfan who was at 825 and last but not least was Hrithik at 1,059th. The international list included over 1,411 stars and though Bollywood’s six did not rank highest they were there.
A survey was sent out to insiders in the entertainment industry from all over the world and then the votes were tabulated and Forbes gave them a Star currency number. According to an article on Forbes.com, “The Forbes Star Currency survey was sent to entertainment industry members globally asking them to use a provided scale in ranking 1,400-plus actors as individuals on a range of attributes regarding their participation in a film, including the actor’s ability to attract significant financing to a project with their involvement; if their presence guarantees theatrical distribution; if they significantly drive theatrical box office performance; and if their involvement is an essential component in securing rights deals for revenue streams including DVD, pay/free TV, etc.”
There was a four way tie for the number two spot between Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie and rounding out the top ten were Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson.
