The opportunity to produce music for a Yash Chopra film is a dream opportunity for any music composer. The gifted musician A.R. Rahman saw his dreams indeed come alive when Chopra presented him with the job of making sweet melodies for his last ever directorial film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Commenting on the project to a leading Indian newspaper at a public event, Rahman asserted how he now feels after having worked with the great auteur. “Yashji saw one of my concerts in London. We had invited him and I think he may have felt that I should be in his film and was kind enough to call me. So it was a great honour for me because I had not worked with him. My whole Hindi film career is now complete.” This is certainly true as Chopra was perhaps the only eminent filmmaker left in the industry that the Oscar winning composer did not have the chance to work with.

Rahman also spoke to the press about the kind of music which he has devised for this romantic saga starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma: “It’s a combination. They wanted to do my kind of songs at the same time they wanted the old charm and soul of music that Indian audiences would love and which I wanted to do for a long time.” In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Rahman added the following: “Yash Chopra has an amazing passion for love stories and Adi (Aditya Chopra) wants the movie to cater to a younger audience. The music has been composed keeping that in mind.” Let’s hope that the soundtrack to Jab Tak Hai Jaan lives up to the high expectations which fans of both Chopra and Rahman have towards it!

Jab Tak Hai Jaan will release in cinemas this Diwali on 13 November 2012. The soundtrack to the film will release later this month. Therefore, keep an eye out for this if you want to uncover what Rahman, Chopra, as well as the great lyricist Gulzar have cooked up for us! For now though you can get a taste of what the soundtrack has to offer, as the first official song from the film ‘Challa,’ performed by Punjabi singer Rabbi released this week!
