Aamir Khan is known for his strong work ethic and his strive for perfection in every role he undertakes, whether it be actor or producer. However, taking on the mantle of director for Taare Zameen Par – his directorial debut was a whole different experience.
“I was totally unprepared for it. I was not supposed to direct the film, but when I saw the rushes I was not satisfied. That is when I decided to take the reins, and I think I have learnt a lot in the process,” Khan said in an interview for PTI.
One of the best things he says about the experience was working with the huge cast of children artists. He added that, “I know I was thrown into the deep end, but I think it worked out in the end. The film is now in its postproduction stages and it should be out by this December. It will be my only release this year.”
This is the second movie Khan is producing, the first being the hugely successful and Oscar nominated Lagaan. Khan said the film holds a special place in his heart because not only did he star in the film; it was also his first film as a producer. And because it was such a success it encouraged him to continue on with the role of producer as well as star.
It also has a special place in his heart because he learned not only about being a producer, but also more importantly about life. “I think Lagaan taught me a lot more as a human being than as a professional. I learnt a lot from the people of Kutch, who never, ever give up, no matter what the circumstances. I treasure the memories while producing Lagaan”, he said.
We are eagerly anticipating Taare Zameen Par and cannot wait to see what this brilliant actor, producer and now director has in store for us in the future.
