Earlier this week, Mumbai Mirror ran a story on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan trying to fall pregnant, saying that it was a cause of concern for the entire Bachchan family.
The article claimed that Aishwarya is suffering from a stomach tuberculosis. According to an unnamed source, the actress’s medication is causing the delay to have a baby and until the disease is fully cured, “she is unlikely to risk a pregnancy”.
The Bachchan patriarch was also reeled into the story being quoted, “When it happens, it will happen.” The article cited that Mr Bachchan wrote on his blog about “the rich man’s TB” where he spoke about the myth that the disease only affected the less privileged.
Ever since Abhishek and Aishwarya got married, gossip mongers have been working over time as they speculate when the couple will start a family. Numerous articles have been written about Aish’s supposed pregnancy, but the story that ran in Mumbai Mirror with false statements about her health set the actress and her husband over the top.
On his Twitter profile, Abhishek Bachchan lashed out at these false rumours. In several tweets, he expressed his disappointment and anger about the poor journalism involving his family, saying: “The article in today’s paper about Aishwarya’s health is absolutely false!”
Deeming the article as “disgusting and appalling!” he said that as a husband and a man he is shocked that such false stories can be written about a woman.
“as a husband I will not stand for such rubbish being written about my wife.” He went on to say that he has never reacted to fabricated stories in the past written about him, “BUT THIS IS THE LIMIT!!!”
Abhishek further tweeted, “you want to write and malign me or my father i will take it. but the ladies of my home are off limits! they’ve gone too far this time.”
He put the paper responsible under fire when he wrote, “The paper in question is MUMBAI MIRROR. Such integrity that they didn’t even write the jounalists name. Takes guts to stand by your work!”
Abhishek thanked his fans for always being there for him and expressed his love and appreciation to his Twitter followers saying that he holds their love very close to his heart.
On Friday morning, Mumbai Mirror published the following statement on their website. Whether it is legitimate or not is yet to be questioned, but it is signed off by Aishwarya.
“I read your article ‘Pregnant Pause’ in your paper Mumbai Mirror on page 27 on February 18, 2010.
I am completely shocked, appalled and extremely upset with the contents of the article. I completely deny the report. It is fabricated and false. It is very disappointing that your office did not even bother to verify this article with me, my family, my spokesperson or my office. I would think it only ethical and correct to get the person in question’s side of the story or verification before printing such news.”
