The BBC Asian Network celebrates this year’s Vaisakhi Festival on Wednesday 14 April. Dedicating many of the network’s programmes to the festival, the celebrations climax with Gagan’s Vaisakhi Party from 5pm.
The network kicks of its programming at 5am where Ravinder Singh Kundra will present a live version of Devotional Sounds. Featuring an interview with Jazzy B, this special show will also include a live session and interview with singer-songwriter and producer Sukhshinder Shinda.
During Sonia Deol’s show (10am-12.30pm), there’s a whole host of Vaisakhi music on offer and an exciting feature where Gurcharan Maal and KS Bhamrah have a live Boliyan face-off live on air!
The celebrations culminate in Gagan’s Vaisakhi Party 5pm-8pm (with an ANR break 6-6.30pm). Gagan speaks to Bend It Like Beckham and It’s a Wonderful Afterlife director Gurinder Chadha and hugely successful male urban artist Jay Sean. The legendary Malkit Singh performs a live acoustic set in the studio and Begum Nawazish Ali also joins Gagan to talk about how Vaisakhi is marked in Pakistan. Listeners are also treated to further tracks from Sukshinder Shinda’s live Sessions and hear Vaisakhi greetings from Bollywood stars.
