Amitabh Bachchan aka Big B has given an amazing Diwali gift to Oxfam, which is an international aid agency. Mr. Bachchan has donated items from his personal wardrobe to be auctioned online on December 1st to benefit the charity. He was motivated to make the donation after he had visited one of Oxfam’s stores.

Besides helping the charity Big B wants to inspire other Asians in Britain to contribute to and get involved in charity work this Diwali season and all through the year. He said, “I urge everyone to come forward and contribute very generously to this noble cause.”

Oxfam said, “Diwali is traditionally a time for thinking of those in need and of getting rid of old clothes and buying new ones. We are hoping Mr. Bachchan’s donation will inspire many Hindus, Jains and Sikhs to donate their clothes to their local Oxfam shops and buy fun Diwali gifts from its Unwrapped catalogue.”

Among the 50 items up for auction are suits, jackets and embroidered shirts and the money raised from the auction will be used to help fund the work the charity does all over the world. Oxfam Unwrapped has helped people in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan among many other countries.

Pushpanath Krishnamurthy of Oxfam said, “It is a huge honour for Oxfam to have been given these donations by Amitabh Bachchan, and this generosity underlines why he has maintained such enormous popularity for more than 30 years. By donating his clothes Big B is helping Oxfam to make a huge difference in tackling poverty, suffering and injustice around the world.”

Adding, “We can all do the same at Diwali and by buying Diwali gifts from Oxfam Unwrapped too, we can bring the light of hope to even more people.”
