What does this birthday mean to you?
Birthdays earlier used to be very ostentatious for me even though I’ve never been drawn to ostentatious birthday celebrations. The glitz and glamour feel empty compared to the warmth of being surrounded by family. Simple moments with loved ones, heartfelt laughter, and genuine connection mean far more to me than any grand display. To me, true celebration is about love, not luxury.
So what is your idea of a really happy birthday?
I mostly now like to travel with my family on my birthdays. They are all I want. There is nothing happier than sitting against the backdrop of the pyramids in Egypt or the Vineyards of Florence with your children who have unconditional goodwill of love in their eyes, as for my fans they send me enough love and positivity via social media to feel immensely blessed. Last year my sons gave me snail shells collected from the garden, an unsuspecting frog who caused quite a commotion in the living room till it was released back in its habitat and a “professional” wrestling match between the youngest and his oldest brother had us in splits. I am super -excited what they have in store for me today.
Do you recall your birthdays from your childhood?
Growing up in an Army family, birthdays were nothing short of magical chaos. My late mother would bake my birthday cake herself—always perfect, always special. Her legendary homemade Lucknavi Biryani was reserved for two occasions: my birthday and Christmas, making it something I eagerly awaited all year. The house would be brimming with energy as all my friends—and their parents—poured in. That’s how fauji birthdays were: a big, warm celebration of community and camaraderie. Mom orchestrated the games with her effortless charm, while my father valiantly managed 30 kids hopped up on sugar and samosas. I’m pretty sure there were moments he wished he was back on the borders defending India instead of wrangling us little hooligans! These memories remind me of the simple joys of life—family, friends, and the love that makes every celebration unforgettable.
How do you look back on your journey so far?
As I stand at the cusp of another milestone, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that has brought me here. A Miss India crown, a Miss Universe runner-up win, 25 films, 36 brand endorsements, 108 top magazine covers, two sets of twin blessings, a Filmfare award, the Harvey Milk Foundation’s Lilla Watson award, a United Nations ambassador-ship, and countless unforgettable moments later… here I am. Each achievement, each experience, and each challenge has shaped me into the woman I am today—a woman grateful for the past and excited for what lies ahead. Most significant moment is yet to come….
What is your secret recipe for the glow at your age?
While I was blessed with my parents’ unique genetics, the real magic lies in a lifelong commitment to being the best version of myself. Consistency has been my mantra. I still follow the same disciplined lifestyle I adopted as a 15-year-old young model—sensational, driven, and ready to conquer the world.I work very hard—whether it’s maintaining a balanced workout routine, nourishing my body with wholesome food, or keeping negativity at bay. But above all, I invest deeply in self-love and gratitude, nurturing both my mind and body.Because when you honor yourself, inside and out, the glow follows naturally.
How have you managed to remain married to the same spouse for so many years?
Marriage is not a “happily ever after” fairy tale. It’s an evolving, unpredictable adventure that two people embark on together. It’s about falling in love with the same person repeatedly as they grow, change, and face life’s ups and downs, just as you do. Here’s the truth: no relationship comes with guarantees. The strength of a marriage lies in its foundation. Without trust, respect, shared values, and a clear understanding of each other’s goals, it becomes challenging to navigate the complexities of life as a team. Marriage requires work. It’s a commitment that demands effort, patience, and the willingness to adapt.
Any birthday wishes?
This year, my wish is simple yet profound: I want to step into my fullest potential as a mom, a human being, an actor, and a recording artist and humanitarian. May my work and my relationship la reflect the depth of my passion, the breadth of my creativity, and the authenticity of my voice. I hope to create art that not only challenges me but also inspires, resonates, and connects with others. Here’s to embracing growth, pursuing excellence, and living with purpose. Cheers to making dreams reality—one step, one project, one song, one role and one kid at a time.
