India’s ruling Congress party have snapped up the copyrights to A R Rahman’s Oscar winning song ‘Jai Ho’.

The Slumdog Millionaire song, which has become popular worldwide, is going to be used by the Congress party as its theme song in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A senior Congress leader has confirmed that the ruling party has bought the rights to the popular song from Boyle’s film from the music company T- Series. The party hopes that the song will convey that the Congress government has brought hope to the common man.

It is not the first time that the Congress party has used a popular soundtrack to convey a message, having used a song from Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Chak De! India in the past.
