Every religion is defined by a major holiday that is considered to be the biggest day of the year for the religion. For the Muslims, that holiday is Eid. Eid is the holiday that follows the holy month of Ramadan. After the month long fasting period, people are eager to celebrate their hard work. We here at BollySpice went and asked a few of our Muslim counterparts what Eid means to them. Here is what they had to say.
Eid to me means to ask for forgiveness and to clean all the sins I’ve done to others. It means purity of the soul to me and it is the happiest day for me tonight. ~ Fina
Eid has always been a very big deal in our family. It’s not the same celebrating Eid in Canada as it was in Bangladesh since most of my family is there but we try to make the best out of it. To me Eid-al-Fitr means celebrating the end of Ramadan. It is a time to spend time with your family and friends and spread some love and of course how can one forget to indulge in all the amazingly delicious food. I LOVE Eid! and not just because of the parties and good food and money, but because at the end month, you know that you have done something good for god and for yourself. People fast so that they can learn to value what is given to them in this world and once something as simple as food is taken away from you, you then realize its value. Eid is an accomplishment. it is the celebration of working towards becoming a better human. ~ Mehak
For me, Eid is a time of celebration and celebrating the fact that you are alive. I don’t focus too much on the religious aspects but prefer to focus more on the joy of life while appreciating the many things I have around me including family, friends, etc. Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate, and those who don’t! ~ Aly
Eid is a time of great happiness and celebration. It is the best time of the year for any Muslim. Think about Catholics during Christmas or Hindus during Diwali, and you’ll know what Eid is like for a Muslim. The joy you feel during Eid, you won’t feel at any other time of the year. If there is one day I look forward to every year, it is definitely Eid because of the joy and happiness it brings me. The time I spend with God as well as family and friends that day is priceless.
