Judge ST Mahajan has summoned Mallika Sherawat to appear before him on October 7th on a charge of obscenity. The charge has been brought Vinod Jain who says that he saw Mallika on TV on December 31st, 2006 dancing obscenely in a broadcast from the Marriott Hotel.
It’s unclear why he has brought the charge against Mallika and not the TV broadcaster or the producer. His argument is this: “Such dancing is permissible in a movie as a person can choose to watch a movie or otherwise. There is a censor board to monitor films but no such authority for TV shows. Any child may unwittingly witness this obscenity.” Mallika was apparently wearing a skin-tight dress that Mr Jain considers obscene.
It’s been a bad year for Mallika so far with both her major outings so far not done as well as expected – and the threat of a maximum 3-year jail sentence and a 1 lakh fine probably feels like the icing on the cake.
However, things may be looking up. Mallika has the movie Naagin to look forward to wherein she plays the snake goddess and she has also recently patched up her argument with RGV who has hinted that she might appear in the follow-up to Phoonk.
