Images of dancers grooving to the beats of the drums is a typical carnival image and ‘Breakaway’ added to the high spirits witnessed during the annual Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Festival in Canada.
The Indo-Canadian production, ‘Breakaway’, was a key participant in the happy mayhem of the street carnival Caribana – the Caribbean cultural festival held over the weekend of July 30 – bringing to the people of Canada the pulsating Calypso rhythms and creating a ‘joie de vivre’ atmosphere. And it was among this electrifying surrounding that ‘Breakaway’ made its presence felt with a distinctive float carrying posters of the movie making its away among the carnival-lovers. And did they love this float too! One saw carnival dancers prance and strut around the float and people stopped by to get a handful of the movie’s images clicked.
One of the largest Caribbean festival’s in North America, pulling in a crowd of more than 1.3 million every year, ‘Breakaway’ added the extra zing to the magic and thrill of Caribana.
