The latest offering from the house of Rajshri is Love You…Mr Kalakaar, a film by debutant director S Manavsi, a romantic comedy featuring Tushaar Kapoor (The Golmaal franchise) and Amrita Rao (Vivah and Main Hoon Naa).

In the music director’s chair is Sandesh Sandaliya (Socha Na Tha and Chameli) with Manoj Mutashir as the lyricist. The album is made up of 7 tracks and features an impressive list of singers which includes Shreya Ghosal (‘Teri Ore’ – Singh is Kinng and ‘Bahara’ – I Hate Luv Storys), Neeraj Shridhar (‘Twist’ – Love Aaj Kal and ‘Papa Jag Jayega’ – Houseful), Mohit Chauhan (‘Pee Loon’ – Once Upon A Time in Mumbai and ‘Masakali’ – Delhi 6), Gayatri Ganjawala (‘My Dil Goes Mmmm…’ – Salaam Namaste), Kunal Ganjawala (‘Bheegi Hont’ – Murder and ‘Salaam Namaste’ – Title Song) and Vijay Prakash (‘Fiqrana’ – Blue and ‘Beera’ – Raavan).

Love You Mr Kalakaar hits screens 13 May 2011.

The album starts with a contemporary romantic duet by Neeraj Shridhar and Shreya Ghosal, called Sarphira Sa Hai Dil. Neeraj’s and Shreya’s vocals sound great together and it’s a surprise that we have not much from this pair before. For a romantic number, the lyrics are quite original, without any run-of-the-mill phrases. In short, a sweet track that’s easy on the ears.

Next is Tera Intezaar, which increases the tempo of the album a little bit. It is another love song by Vijay Prakash and Gayatri Ganjawala. Like ‘Sarphira Sa Hai Dil’, this track also has quite lovely lyrics. Musically, it is a moderately paced number with just enough tempo to get your feet tapping to the beats. ‘Tera Interzaar’ is re-visited later on the album and do not be surprised if you prefer this version. Newcomer Reeky Dev sings this version and the while the music of the first version is not bad, it is nowhere as good as this version’s music. It is still modern and moderately paced, but it just has more finesse than the first. Not to mention, Reeky’s wonderful vocals make this version all the more lovable.

The third track is Bhoore Bhoore Badal, which is arguably, the album’s first desi number as its predecessors have been contemporary tracks. It is a beautiful number, very earthy like its lyrics and Shreya and Kunal do an amazing job singing it. The light drums in the song are what make this track so beautiful.

The title track is next and arguably, this is has to be the lowest point in the album. Mr and Mrs Ganjawala do a decent job but the song does not impress lyrically and musically. It is very kid-ish and the English lyrics, which have been used quite effectively in the prior tracks, are an ear-sore. Give this one a miss.

Next is Kahin Se Chali Aa, a sad yet beautiful number by Mohit and newcomer Shivangi Kashyap. Sandesh has to be commended on the beautiful music but Mohit is who makes this song so beautiful. Shivangi take a moment or two to grow on you, but once she does she does not disappoint. The song’s well-penned lyrics make it even more beautiful.

The album closed with Reaching the Rainbow, an English track rendered by Janice Sobti and Vinne Hutton. It is not a bad track, the lyrics may be a little corny but music is pretty sweet. However, there is an obvious risk of Indian audiences completely ignoring this number.

If you had to sum up the music of Love You…Mr Kalakaar in a word, it would be sweet, because it really is. It is extremely lovey-dovey and Sandesh, Manoi and the singers have made sure that the songs ooze sweetness. Rajshri is known for its insightful lyrics that mirror the narration of its films and Love You…Mr Kalahar is no different. Arguably, ‘Sarphira Hai Yeh Dil’, ‘Tera Intezaar Revisited’, ‘Bhoore Bhoore Badal’ and ‘Kahin Se Chali Aa’ are the album’s best tracks. It is definitely worth a listen and a must have for all the romantics out there.
