One of the films on many a fans’ “I must see this” lists is Anurag Basu’s modern romance anthology Metro… इन दिनों (Metro…In Dino)!
Featuring the incredible talents of Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Anupam Kher, the bittersweet modern rom-com is set to hit the big screen on July 4th!
The film has the tagline: “Metro… इन दिनों — When love, fate, and city life collide, magic is bound to happen. This brings the stories of heart from the cities that you love!”
Basu, before the shoot began, said, “Metro…In Dino is a tale of the people and for the people. The storyline is very fresh and relevant and I look forward to collaborating with amazing artists who bring that essence of contemporary aura with them.”
The film is what is now being called a ‘spiritual sequel’, which means it is not a direct continuation of the story but inhabits the same world and essence as the brilliant Life in A Metro. As you might know, Pritam composed the soundtrack for Life In A Metro, and it appears that this film’s title references the fabulous track ‘In Dino’ from that 2007 film.
Basu said earlier, “As music plays a very important role in any film, I couldn’t be happier to be collaborating with my dear friend Pritam, who has literally added life to the characters and story with his work.”
When the film was announced, Bhushan Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director of T-Series, said, “Stitching a story out of parallel lives together in a film with a contemporary twist, none better than dada (Anurag Basu) could helm this ship. While he brings about the magic with a gripping story, Pritam will be adding his charm with the music, enhancing the experience entirely.”
After completing the film, Fatima Sana Sheik had nothing but praise for Anurag Basu as a director: “As a director, he is considerate and takes care of you. People think if the film is taking long, a lot of shoot is being done. But that’s not the case. Since his films have an ensemble cast, he has to coordinate the dates of so many actors. If you trust him, he will get the best performance out of you. Also, his characters are so well-written.”
Ali Fazal said after he finished his last day on set, “Wrapping up Metro In Dino has been a journey filled with emotion, joy, and creativity. Working with Anurag sir has been an absolute honor. His vision and storytelling have always inspired me, and I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible team of Metro In Dino. I can’t wait for the world to see what we’ve created together.”
About shooting with that incredible cast, the director recently revealed, “It was great. It was as fun as… It was a huge responsibility because I thought that the old Metro (Life In A Metro) would be forgotten by people. People won’t remember it that much. But as soon as I started making it, people’s expectations went through social media. So, the expectations are really high. I hope I deliver in this film, and we had good fun shooting it.”
